In need of house corp bylaws

The Mu Zeta House Corporation, at UC Berkeley, is in need of some house corp by-laws. Our current by-laws are (1) MIA, and (2) over 50 years old even if we could find 'em. Anyone have some they could share? I know that there are some 'canned' bylaws somewhere on the big LXA website in the sky but the operative word there is somewhere!

I was told the search function was disabled for the most part
because it was searching and finding documents that were not
for public release.

Not ritual or anything, but more like financial statements and
chapter information that isn't considered extremely sensitive
but wouldn't be published on the www.

The link that Eric provided was the one that I was looking for. I tweaked 'em to meet our needs; they're not bad but it takes a large group of folks to fill all the chairs!

In addition there was no provision for telephonic meetings or the use of e-mail. The use of the phrase "reasonably calculated to give notice" works lots better than "mail to the last known address on the rolls of . . ."

LOL, John, suggest you print them and then revise as you need!

Ours was pretty basic and that is usually the best way!

We met twice a year, Homecoming and Founders Dday.

If need be, we could stay in contact via either email or phone calls.

Agree, the site is and has supposedly been in refit for to long.

Great site, but we can not navigate it!

Ah, gents...check with our GHPi. When I used the "sample" bylaws for the alumni association as a basis for ours, the feedback I got was "Where'd this come from?" It's got a bunch of issues.

John, did you check with Elgan Baker at Butler?

House Corporation bylaws

You should consider using, as a base document, the standard not for profit corporation bylaws provided by your secretary of state, or by the state bar association's corporation section. Those will be more likely to comply with state law that a set available on the website. You should be sure that you have provided the maximum allowable indemnity language under state law with respect to officers and directors. You should also consider making sure that you can take action by consent or in a telephonic meeting, as allowed by state law. The general form available from the website does not always provide for the differences in state law between 50 states. You should always provide the escheat provisions from the constitution with respect to the general fraternity.

You need to consider the needs of your group and the locations of your alumni as you draft the bylaws. The set available on the website is old and does not consider the distances that alumni move away from their chapters.

The SS-4 form, for an employer identification number, is available and fileable on line at the Internal Revenue Service website.

Neither the Secretary of State nor the State bar offer "canned" bylaws. I've been practicing here since '89 and found both to be minimally helpful at best.
