Junior pledge!!
Hey guys I know this has been asked a bit but I'm just curious for some opinions!! I'm currently a frosh at my local community college. My best friend pledged XYZ this year, and is having an awesome time. I also visited her and just loved the sorority. I'm moving in with her and a few friends from her school next year, some of which are members of XYZ, others members of ABC, etc. Anyways, my point is do you think it will be weird for me to pledge as a junior when i transfer in? i wanted to transfer after a year and a half instead of two, but she urged me to wait for fall rush when its most fun with big/lils, presents, etc. Just wondering what you think it will be like for me, especially if i know a lot of the girls by the time i pledge. thanks!!! sorry if this sounds pointless lol

barbiegirl -
I would recommend that you change your user name. It gives a really bad impression, and reads just the same as if your user name was "future_abc."
Second, I would use the search function - seriously, the search function is your friend. You will find beau coup threads on just this subject.
Last, but not least, if I were you, I would get myself over to the Sorority Recruitment section and read what wisdom the fine ladies on this site have for your question(s).
Lastly, welcome to GreekChat. I hope you will enjoy your time here.

A few things:
- Going through recruitment is not the same as pledging. In order to pledge, one must have to go through recruitment first, and then extended a bid for membership.
- No one will be able to give you a definite answer on how it's like for a Junior to go through rush because it all depends on what school you're at and how competitive rush is over there. Some campuses Juniors don't stand a chance. At some, Juniors getting bids are rare, but not impossible. At others, it's pretty common.
- You knowing a bunch of sorority members does not guarantee you an "in".
- Formal recruitment (Fall Rush, as you say) isn't about Big/Lils and presents. I joined during Informal and got a Big and was showered with presents. With Formal Recruitment, you get to meet ALL the houses, not just a few (as you would in Informal).
My advice? Study hard at your CC and keep your grades up. Get involved if you can. When it's time for you to go through recruitment, do so with an open mind and give all the houses a chance.

I thought that at first, and then I figured it might be xo, like xoxoxo at the end of a letter, especially when preceeded by barbiegirl.

haha yeah it has nothing to do with chi o if thats what you thought! i think its been my email since i was like.. 12. but thanks for the input! i realized after i def got a bunch of terms mixed up!! pledging/rush/etc. i should have specified i guess that i was looking for someone who actually did rush as a junior!!
and dont worry, i'm planning to look at other houses, esp since girls im going to be living with are in them!! and i dont think i have an automatic in dont worry! the thought of rushing still scares the crap out of me even if i was bff's with every last one of them!!

I'd recommend checking out the General Advice post in the Recruitment Forum:
http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=54403
The more you know about the "rush" process and how it works, the better prepared you will be.
