Are TV commercials Outdated?

I was reading this interesting blog and the question came to me as a sidebar...

what is going on is that NBC wants to start it's own way of selling tv shows online for people that want to download them because of a dispute they had with iTunes.

This gentleman wrote this letter to both telling why iTunes and NBC will fail if they cant come to some agreement...what fascinated me was that his 6 year old child had never seen a commercial and that in this day and age when we record everythign...it's almost possible to skip...

please read the blog and tell me your thoughts:

Not everyone has TiVo or a DVR. I think this guy is really oversimplifying.

I predict it's going to go back to the 1950's - integrating the product into the show - like when you saw the giant "Geritol" sign hanging over the panelists in What's My Line.

Oh, wait a minute. It already has.

Gotta love that product placement.....I DID notice that on AI this year too!!

I mean if ads are going to be shown less...I guess they have to find ways to make thier money!

I don't know...maybe it's because about 70% of what I watch on TV are live sporting events, I just can't see how this will ever happen. I mean I'd love for college football to be like soccer where the games are uninterrupted but I just don't see it happening.

In baseball they have the ever changing ads behind homeplate and the announcers will do radio style ads even on t.v.

For football companies can pay to put their logo on the field or, like bowl games, sponsor the game.
