spring rush?

Hi everyone!
So heres my story...I wasnt really interested in joining a sorority going into college but after i started school i realized that it was something that i would really like to do. I couldnt really go through spring rush my freshman year either because i was going through a lot of family problems. I wanted to go through rush this fall as a sophomore but my mom said that we couldnt afford it. Im considering saving up money with the job im working now and going the spring rush as a sophomore. I concerned with going through spring rush b/c i go to as sec school where i hear that most sororities dont really do it and if some do i feel id be limited to my options which i guess would be ok...i guess my question is would it be worth it?

If you go to LSU (which is what I'm assuming by your name), your spring options will be limited. I think every group there met quota and is at or close to total. I'm not sure if there willl be COB. Also, even groups slightly below total might not do COB because they only have a few openings. I'd call the Greek Life office to ask if any sororities are doing it for sure.

If there is COB, there's no harm in going to the events. No one here can speculate whether or not you'll get a bid, but it never hurts to try.

I think that would depend on your reasons for wanting to be greek.

Are you ready to save up a big chunk of your paycheck for the next 2.5 years to pay dues? A smaller chapter that COBs may work in your favor if they don't have a house to pay for. I think most sororities offer payment plans but it's still a big commitment.

I had a job and paid all my dues and it was worth it. Good luck!

Don't all the chapters at LSU have houses? I may be wrong, but I was pretty sure they did. Get a accurate picture of how expensive dues will be before you make your decision. It is VERY expensive at LSU. You would not be very popular if you were wrong about your ability to afford it if you dropped out and left a hole in the chapter.

Yes, the NPCs have very nice houses along the lake. There are some nice pics in the Greek Tiger. http://appl003.lsu.edu/slas/greekaffairs2.nsf/$Content/Homepage/$file/GreekTiger2007.pdf

I grew up in Baton Rouge but rarely went near the sorority houses. Obviously I didn't go to LSU since I'm an AOII, and they have the "Alpha Curse!"

I apologize for not knowing, but what is an Alpha Curse?

All of the NPC sororities with names starting with Alpha have closed at LSU. They don't have a single "alpha" sorority.

Exactly! Poor Alphas at LSU have no chance of success!

I wouldn't say that. I would say that things have changed in the last 20 years since the last Alpha NPC closed. I would also say that any Alpha that did try would need an awesome campaign. The main issue for any colonizing group is housing. Land originally set aside to build on Sorority Row has been used by the univerity.
