Our sweetheart was a guy (NOT a boyfriend of a member, big can o' worms if you go that route) who was friends with most of the sisters and supported us "above and beyond the call." How many per chapter depends on the chapter.

Sororities are not allowed to have any men at their rush functions, sweetheart or not. I think they might be able to come to fraternity rush parties.

Our Sweetheart is usually a Brother's girlfriend, who has been around for a while and has become a close friend of the chapter. Known as a White Rose, she comes to some of our rush events, our house functions, and is a representative of our chapter. It is hard to explain the love and respect that our Sweetheart gets and deserves, becuase these girls truly become like sisters to us. Being a White Rose of Sigma Tau Gamma is not just a title given to any girl, but one given to a girl who upholds the standards and principles of STG.

Well as far as Fraternity sweethearts, they come to our rush events, philathropic events,and you tend to have more socials with the sorority is in because she is your sweetheart. Plus she usually makes us cookies, cupcakes etc once a month before chapter starts.
Sorority sweethearts just help the girls set up for evenings rush event and gets guys from his fraternity to help. Plus they are invited to attend all semi-formals/formals and date functions that the sorority has.
