Wink another rush story-Fall 2006!

I just recently joined GC and love it! I can't wait to have formal recruitment in the fall. I go to the University of Pittsburgh and I rushed last fall semester in 2006 as a freshman.

I had come to Pitt without knowing much about sororities and without really being very interested in them. I remember I told my mom that I didn't think i'd join a sorority and that it probably wasn't for me.

Well as you know things change.

I didn't know many people going to pitt and this one friend of mine that i knew really wanted to rush and she didn't want to do it by herself so i said i'd go with her. I also convinced a friend of mine on my floor to do it with me as well.

Okay here are the sororities that go to Pitt
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Phi Epsilon
Delta Zeta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Sigma Sigma
Theta Phi Alpha

In a random order i'm going to name them after european cities
Paris
Madrid
Barcelona
Copenhagen
Stockholm
London
Prague
Vienna
Amsterdam
Dublin
Berlin

Ps Rush for me kind of feels like a blur but i'll try to remember everything!

Beginning
Meet the Greeks is held in the student union. You get to meet the officers of the different sororities pre-rush. All of the sororities seem the same and its hard to tell them apart. My friend and i had previously me the president of the Paris sorority and went to their stand to talk. We both kind of wanted them. My other floor friend kind of liked them all.

Rush-
11 Rounds
The first party i went to was in Vienna. They did a cute song and their sorority suite, (Pitt Doesn't have houses except for one), was really nice and bright. Everyone really liked theirs and I had a good conversation as the first house.
We visited all of the houses or chapters and to me they all seemed the same, asked the same questions so it was hard to tell them apart.
I do remember going to Madrid. The girls there were really beautiful and had a bit of a reputation. My rusher was really nice and we had a nice conversation, but I knew the house wasn't for me, I could just tell right away.
The next house I remember going to was Prague. The girl I talked to I remember we both loved the same book and talked about that but she was kind of shy. I remember I had to kind of pull a conversation out of her. They were nice but the other girls in my rush group didn't really like them at all.
I can't really remember the other groups they all seem the same!

Time for ranking after 11 rounds.
I ranked Madrid last and I ranked Paris first. I think I ranked prague somewhere in the middle. Vienna was also top on my list. London, Amsterdam, Bercelona, Berlin, Copenhagen and Stockholm and Dublin were mixed in there as well.

to be continued...

I have an insatiable appetite for rush threads. I feel like singing "Feed Me" from Little Shop everytime I check and no one has updated. Please continue ASAP!

Okay Round 2-8 Rounds-Philanthropy
Now I got my list back of my houses I was supposed to visit. I only got 7 out of 8 but that was okay I didn't mind not going to another house because it was really tiring! haha.
I was shocked to find that Madrid had me on their list because I had ranked them last. I didn't really understand why.
Madrid-Nice girls, but still not for me. I don't know why I was there because I had ranked them last, I guess they must have liked me.
London-I talked to a few girls and it was really nice. Their suite is bright and airy.
Paris-had a good time, I really liked this house the best out of all of them so far.
Dublin. I had talked to this one rusher who knew a girl who went to my high school. I had gotten along with her pretty well and other girls in this sorority so I liked them alot as well.
Barcelona-Again the girls were nice, but they weren't anything to rave about. Some of the conversation was forced although they were pretty peppy. maybe a little too much for me.
Prague- The girls here were really nice. I know alot of the girls in my rush group didn't particularly like them and thought them a bit dorky. I admit I also thought this, and didn't really see myself there. But the girls were really friendly. I had a friend in another organization in this sorority, but I didn't talk to her.
Copenhagen- Again nice girls, I didn't really click with anybody I don't think. 2 girls that I talked to were nice but a little too intense for me. I didn't think I fit in here very much as well.
Stockholm-A girl that I talked to at meet the greeks came over and said hi. I thought that was really awesome. She was really cool. I liked this sorority

Now back to ranking.
Paris
London
Dublin
Stockholm
Barcelona
Prague
Copenhagen
Madrid

to be continued...

I was trying to look at their website, but couldn't find greek life. Which campus was it or is there a main campus? Most school websites make it easy to find, but this one I was having problems with. I love looking at sorority sites because each one is so different and unique so hopefully you can help! Good beginning to your story btw

Pitt Greek Website

Try www.gogreek.pitt.edu. It is currently in the process of being updated and sometimes does not load all of the the graphics easily, but this is the current Greek website at Pitt.

I love that there's another story about recruitment at Pitt! Since I went to undergrad elsewhere (but grad school here), it makes me feel a bit more at home in the 'burgh.

okay time for 4 rounds- Skit time i believe
For 4 rounds I got back
Dublin
London
Paris
Copenhagen

Copenhagen-Again the conversation was forced. I think when i talked to the girls we both kind of new i didn't fit in here. Their skit also wasn't not very well rehearsed. I wasn't too impressed although they tried hard.

Dublin-Instead of a skit they showed a video of themselves. I really liked this. The video was cute and it looked like everyone was bonded. The girls here and I clicked for the most part. One of the girls told me she had this disease that was kind of something I couldn't relate to at all. It made things a bit awkward. I wasn't sure how to respond.

London- By this time I had been talking to one particular girl throughout recruitment. I had mentioned I wanted to get involved in 2 particular groups on campus and they had me talk to a girl who was already involved. She was awesome and we just talked the whole time about everything. The skit they did was really cute, I liked it alot and it was well rehearsed and funny.

Paris-The girls here sang a song for the skit. It was cute if a little cheesy. Some of the girls didn't even seem like they wanted to sing it. The convo i had here was good, and I liked the girls here alot.

Okay Time for ranking

Paris
London
Dublin
Copenhagen

to be continued...

I am rooting for Paris it's my favorite city in the entire world and since thats one day where I want to live (atleast for a little while), but London is amazing too and has wonderful museums, but it doesn't have the pizzaz as Paris...I hope you get your first choice!!

Preference Night!!!

So the next day I got my list of 2 houses for preference!
The Houses I received were Dublin and London. I was pretty shocked because I thought for sure i had gotten paris because i had met the president, good conversations, knew someone who went to my high school was in this sorority. So I thought for sure i'd get it. I was pretty disappointed and when I talked to my rho chi's they said that I should go to the 2 houses that i recieved and check it out and if i was unhappy to just drop and try again in the spring. I took her advice and it was the best decision of my life!

So I went to
Dublin and London

First was Dublin
Dublin- we sat in their informal living room and ate chocolate cake and chatted with a girl that we had talked to on previous occasions. They wrote us letters which was nice and cute, but I had thought that I had only really talked to this girl for a short time that writing a letter was kind of weird, but i thought okay this is a sorority so maybe its not so weird. The ceremony part was nice although i wasn't very moved by it like i know the rho chi's said we might be, but overall i'm not a very emotional person anyway. It was a nice preference overall.

London- I was matched up with the girl who i had talked to the longest during recruitment, the one who was involved in the same clubs that i had wanted to join. We sat in the formal living room in pairs in cute little tables and we had cheesecake brought out to us with our names spelled out in chocolate sauce on the plate . The living room was dark with lots of christmas type lights so it was very pretty. After we talked for a while over cheesecake, we heard some speeches by some of the sisters. Then we went to another living room and had the ceremony. I wasn't emotional but this ceremony just felt alot better to me. I liked it alot and felt connected to it even though I had no idea what was going on haha. After the ceremony, we went back to where we were sitting and chatted some more. Soon it was time to go and I really didn't want to leave, i wanted to stay.

Now Time for Rankings
I decided not to suicide so I ranked
London
Dublin
to be continued.... (only if i get some more replies) haha jk
