What is your HCB doing this summer to improve your property?
If your chapter has a house or meeting place, what is your HCB doing to improve it this summer? ...we're in the middle of remodeling my kitchen and family room, so I'm in an HGTV kind of mood. Inspire me with your great projects!

We don't need any major remodeling done (the house was just built in 2001). I think they're getting rid of the upstairs lounge furniture since it's old, and plaid, and ugly. They're going to put newer stuff in there.

We are doing a lot of things, but most of it is just the guys in the house getting things going. Our HCB is concentrating on mostly the roof and water damage.

Last year (the summer after I moved out ), we got air conditioning, new laundry facilities, and new furniture and hardwood floors in the 3 quads. This summer they're repainting the entire outside of our house and I think getting more new furniture for the remaining bedrooms.

You are right...maybe I should re-phrase my question and add context.
What are some things your HCB has done in the past that have improved your live in experience? Wire for internet? Improve laundry areas? sound proof the study room?
I'm not on a HCB right now, but when I was, aside from the maintenance/repair stuff we had to do...it was hard to decide how to spend our "fun" money in ways that made a difference and created pride in the facility. One thing we did do was start to de-formalize the dining area and create a Starbucks like atmosphere...and we bought a really good bbq so the cook could grill more meals instead of using processed or fried foods.

With a new house of course it is tough!
But getting a kitchen table and an old peice of crap freezer out of it!
The major thing was The Chapter Adviser who is HC redid the lawn, re seeded it and planted more decrative plantings.
For houses that need work, interior work can be done by members, painting does wonders if done right.
In visiting the LXA house at Un. Ks. today it needed work as was AGD old house but nice and bigger than looked from the exterior. Painting was the first thing that hit me. Tape off and then paint. Could see were some painted and poorly!
Cosmetics do wonders! Either cleaning the carpet, having it replaced, or putting wood floors down.
The ASA house has a room done yearly to retro it. Of course it helps when the Regiona Director is married to a LXA and a General Contractor whose Chapter is right across the street from each other!
The AGD house was redone by the same LXA Brother, but unfortunitly they have water in the basement problems that the City say is not their fault!

We're going through a relatively major renovation right now: New fence for the courtyard, redoing the decking, repainting all of the outside, buying new letters for the outside, improving exterior lighting, re-landscaping, repainting and refurnishing the chapter room and living areas, rennovating the guest bathrooms, etc...
work starts on weekdays at about 9 am which is a real pain for those of us who dont sleep until 5 am... but the results will be great.

Not my fraternity, but good news today for the chapter involved:
Phi Delta Theta at Emporia State U. in Kansas is building a new house, according to the local paper:
http://www.emporiagazette.com/news/2...ternity_house/
Brief excerpts from article:
Phi Delta Theta is free to build its new fraternity house at 1326 Highland Street.
The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission approved a . . . permit for the house at Tuesday’s meeting. According to engineer Mike Schmidt of Strong City, the house will be two stories tall with a basement, house 16 to 18 people and have 10 parking spaces behind the building.
The fraternity hopes to have the house built and ready to occupy by the end of September.

I bought a swimming pool, but nobody liked it. I do admit though, 6000 gallons is a little large. Hopefully get a fence put up so I can stop running homeless people outta here. If anyone at UT sees a bum wearing an A Chi O shirt on the drag, sorry about that.

Hey, you gotta love the bums. They clean up the beer cans the morning after parties better than any pledgeface could ever do.
