The Secret and the law of attraction
Has anyone read or seen the video, The Secret? It was featured on Oprah a few months ago and it has become very popular. It's about the law of attraction and how we have attracted everything that has happened in our lives (both good and bad) through our thoughts, words, and actions. Have any of you applied any of the principles to your lives and seen results? Do you believe it conflicts with Christianity?

i havent read it my many of my chapter sorors have read it/watched the video. they rave about it and agree that there is some conflict with Christianity - that the author's perspective doesn't give any credit to a higher being, be it G-d or otherwise.
however, another soror mentioned that this so-called "secret" is really reiteration of what's in the bible and other holy writings.
i'm wary when books come out like this. it goes to show that you can package (and re-package) something and sell it with no problem.

So ya'll what is the secret? Please, do tell. It would save me a whole lot of time (and money) if I don't have to watch and buy the video to learn the secret. LOL.

While I have not read the book nor seen the movie, The Secret, I have heard some of the principles and have attempted to apply them (however bootleg it may be). So far, I have seen some changes. I plan to engage myself deeper into the principles once this semester ends. I haven't had time to read anything outside of textbooks, but once I have free time, I have a book a few books on the principle lined up.
In terms of Christianity, just flipping through one of the books that I have, a few of the subtitles are "The Bible is a Prosperity Textbook," "Success is Divinely Ordained," & "The Prosperity Law of Prayer." Bible verses pertaining to the teachings are sprinkled throughout the book. So, I'm sure that it's in line with Christia principles. I'll find out soon enough.

You're right RD...from what I know its believing in the power of your thoughts and mindset and being able to speak things into existence and about claiming your destiny...I've only heard good things about the book...

Hi SummerChild,
I have seen the movie "The Secret" and is inspired by it. Briefly, the Law of Attraction is a theory that like attracts like. Think positive and you will attract positive things and vice versa.
In the "Attraction Acceleration Report", Bob Procter (Master Guru of The Secret) was quoted by Stephen Pierce (one of the world's top internet marketers) to have said that "most people don’t go after what they want, they go after what they think they can get". In this report Bob Procter expounded his thought-provoking views on the Laws of Attraction. Bob also gives an interesting perspective on the 3M methods - M1, M2 and M3, of making money. He further commented on other aspects - attitude, rendering of service and how to generate wealth. Maybe, some of us may be able to relate to his views.
I found this report interesting, useful and enlightening. I have learned a lot from this report. To those friends who are staunch believers of the Law of Attraction, I would strongly recommend that you read this report in order to gain a better insight on the Law of Attraction.

The Secret
I bought the Secret months ago (the book) and it is simple...think positively and positive things will happen for you. I believe that and I did before I even bought the book...If you think you are going to fail, you will. It is just as simple as speaking things into existence, the only thing is, you can't just speak it, you are also going to have to move your feet.
I don't believe the book is a must-read, it is a simple principle (although I think a good one) that was re-packaged for sales.

I agree that it's a good principle in general, but it's somewhat concerning in the implications for people who have bad things happen to them. If good things will happen if you think positive thoughts, then imagine the cancer patient blaming herself for her own negative thoughts. It blames the victim by somehow suggesting that he or she really wanted terrible things to happen, or they wouldn't have. It was the problem when the concept was talked about in the 70s and it still is now.

I agree.
For me, 'the secret' is seeking Christ first and living according to His Word and I'll be blessed accordingly. I don't need to read any extra books that reiterate what the Bible already states. But that's just me.

/\/\/\/\/\ Ditto!
Not impressed with "The Secret". The clearly bible tells me that....
"For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he
~Proverbs 23:7
...so I don't think there really is anything "profound" with The Secret. But that's just my opinion.
