Minority in a NPC
So I am really curious, I am a minority with in a NPC organization and love it, but I often get asked why didnt i join a NPHC organization...so why did you decide to go NPC instead of black, latino, asian ect. type sororities, and fraternities?

I tell them that Alpha Gamma Delta was HOME for me and the others (multi-cultural/Asian-interests/locals) were not.
Just because I'm part Asian and not white doesn't mean that anyone should assume that I'd automatically prefer the non-NPCs.

Two of my Asian daughters belong to NPCs. They wanted to join with the women they'd been raised with and I doubt they considered the MCGs even for a minute.
Neither was the only nonwhite in her GLO, either.

I saw one of the COB ads in our school paper and decided to check it out. I fell in love with Tri Sigma & they extended me a bid. The end. It was never a matter of NPHC v. NPC, I just did me.

i really agree with you all i know i def. went with the sorority that i felt was PERFECT for me. It is a little irritating when other minorities give me the "question face" look lol but we are all greek, we just have to be where we feel is best.

at San Jose State we have a VERY large minority population and multicultural, latino, and black fraternities and sororities flourish but a little over half my chapter is made up of minorities.....same is true for about half the IFC fraternities here.
Pretty much my bros tell me they picked Sigma Nu because they felt at home here during Rush, others said they couldn't imagine joining an ethnic based chapter period.
I'm the only 100% white non-Jew in my 9 man pledge class from Fall 2005! My pledge class had two Indian guys, three Hispanics (two Mexican, one Salvadorian), a Jew, a half White-half Mexican, and a black bro.
Diversity what! And every pledge class is about that mixed here

Wow, this is interesting. I've actually never seen any African Americans in an NPC/IFC organization. I've seen white men and white women in NPHC organizations, when I went to visit Ohio State. I think it's important to pledge what fits you.
I really haven't been exposed to any NPC/IFC groups though, because I went to a historically black college.

the few non-white greeks i know in NPC/IFC orgs are content with their decisions. the TKE chapter at my school was mostly black/hispanic and there is a local sorority that tends to draw many black and latina women. most of the greek orgs had minorities but it was pretty hard to tell that.
then again, i cant imagine anyone who was in that predicament would bring it up in light conversation.
p.s. im pretty sure this has been discussed... see the threads way at the bottom of the page? yeah.

I think it depends on where you go. I don't think the Latino student population is very large in the South....but I could be wrong. I go to school in California, and specifically at a campus with huge minority populations so it's only natural that our IFC chapters would reflect that.
What's funny is my chapter has like the Fall Out Boy listening to A&F wearing boys and then we get guys listening to Mac Dre and Keak Da Sneak dressing up in Babe jackets and whatnot.....so my Sigma Nu chapter is all over the map

Keak da Sneak. Mwahahaha.
I thought he was lame the first time I saw him on My Super Sweet Sixteen.
Is he even known outside The Bay?

I had originally started to pledge a latina sorority, but I didn't like their "only the strong survive" mentality...so i dropped.
I found my home in my GLO and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else.

My sentiments exactly!
Welcome to GC. My cousin (who is biracial) was also initiated into Kappa Kappa Gamma quite a few years ago
