Family's Ordeal Ends as Missing Son Comes Home

For a change a good news story:
Family's Ordeal Ends as Missing Son Comes Home

By Kari Lydersen and Peter Slevin

Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, January 14, 2007; Page A01

KIRKWOOD, Mo., Jan. 13 -- Somehow, after all the dashed hopes and dead ends, after four years of fruitlessly searching forests and mine shafts and Internet bulletin boards, Craig and Pam Akers still expected they would hear news of their kidnapped son.
They just never expected the news would be this good.

Dude for once can you quote an article here instead of a group of links?

No-Copyright laws and fair use doctrine.
And most newsgroups Moderators frown on posting article as well.

You can use portions and quotes withing copyright and fair use. You could also give a couple of sentence summary if you wanted to.

It's nice of you to provide the links, but I suspect that without any context, not as many folks read them as might with a little more info.

You seemed to do a nicer job with context in the water-death story. Thanks.

Great news! I have family friends in law enforcement in that area who always believed he was alive.

In some ways, their ordeal has just begun. Yes, their son is back, which is great, but it'll just be in the next few days that they learn the extent of any abuse, along with the traumatic aftereffects of being kidnapped(!) and kept for 4 years. Hopefully, he will be getting help soon.

I was just reading the same story in the local paper.
I suppose someone with more knowledge of abduction psychology can understand it better, but posting online messages to his own parents just seems mean.

First thing that came to my mind was "The Stockholm syndrome".

We have no way of knowing what the kidnapper said or did either. He may have threatened to kill the kids' family or something if he contacted them. Maybe he was hoping to give them clues to find him without arousing the suspicions of the kidnapper.
