This is Morris Robinson, Spr 89 Beta Mu (The Citadel). I was in Miami doing Verdi's Rigoletto. I actually got to do an interview with Tavis Smiley
I have been Honored to be the First Black Male Opera Singer to be given an exclusive recording contract from a Major Classical Label in the last 50 yrs or so. Instead of doing the traditional album with Opera Arias, I decided to give my talent back to God (from whence it came) and make an album of Gospels and Spirituals. Even with that repertoire, I have tweaked the sound and utilized Jazz and Gospel artists to give it a more modern flair.
On my CD are people like Cyrus Chestnut, Twinkie Clark, Joe Joubert as well as The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (out of London).
There are a few sites that are posting my CD for early pre order sales even though the artwork is not yet up.
If you would be willing to help me circulate amongst the Fraternity, information regarding my CD release, you efforts will be greatly appreciated.
This is not just a Morris Robinson thing (I am one of three Black Male Opera Singers to appear regularly at The Metropolitan Opera House in NYC), but more of a cause, in that the success of MY cd may play an important role in the next brother getting an exclusive deal. If not, there probably will not be another offering like this in 50 to 100 MORE years!
