Local trying to become a national
I am president of a local sorority and we are doing all the paperwork to colonize with a national sorority. Only problem is that we are having problems getting membership up. Does anyone have any ideas what we could do?

What have you done so far and what support has your national offered?

Hmmm...can the National HQ "help" if they aren't officially affiliated with the group? I don't think so.
sigmatauiota, many groups struggle with ways to increase membership. It usually boils down to current members asking friends/classmates, etc. to join. I'm sure if you check the "SEARCH" function -- you'll find other threads on this topic.

NutBrnHair, it can happen if all the parties (local, NPC and admin.) involved agree to it. I'll PM you. After rereading the first post, that may or may not be the case.
"SEARCH" function is always useful.

I can't tell if the OP has a national lined up already, or that their major barrier to becoming a colony is chapter size.
OP: Make it be known that you're looking at national expansion. Girls who may be wary because a local isn't as well known won't be as put off. Bring a friend to sisterhood events.

We have done a whole recruitment based on the fact we are trying to colonize and got 3 women to pledge. We have tried a variety of things to get women interested but it hasn't gone as well as we hoped.
In the colonization process we are just in step one which is where you have to basically ask the current NPC organizations if they would be ok with another NPC organization coming to campus. We can't formally tell organizations that we are looking to expand until step 3.

If you haven't asked the current NPC members about your group becoming NPC, how can you be "doing the paperwork"? No NPC group would allow you to start the colonizing process if the school and the college panhellenic haven't given the OK. Unless you mean the paperwork within your school and college panhellenic.

Gotcha, then you need to go the route of bringing friends in. Find out what makes you different from the other chapters on campus.
One of the things our chapter (national) did was to write down a list of adjectives that describe us. We used that to market ourselves as well as a standard to hold PNMs up to. But if you're struggling during more formal recruitment, then you need to get out there. Participate, on campus, in your letters. Everyone makes a "freshman friend" and brings her to a sisterhood event. HAVE sisterhood events. Lots of them.
And remember that recruitment is 24/7/365

I got the impression that the paperwork was the request to campus panhellenic.
