Alpha Gam and Delta Tau Delta
This is cool!
In the latest edition of our magazine, The Alpha Gamma Delta Quarterly, there is an article on our International HQ. I've condensed it.
"1927 - The formation of the Central Office in NY, NY was announced at Convention. The office was located at the home of Louise Leonard, Grand President, from 1917-1929.
Louise was working as assistant manager of the Delta Tau Delta Headquarters when she was named Executive Secretary at the Central Office while serving her eleventh year as Grand President. She acted as Executive Secretary for 27 years and was named Honorary Grand President in 1954.
So, she was our Grand President and DTD's assistant manager.

Must be something in the stars -- maybe the four on our badge.
I dated an Alpha Gam pledge when I was a Delt pladge.
Then, I met my wife.
I wonder if she stayed with Delt until the Central Office was moved to Indianapolis.
Pretty random reply.

It was a dark rainy night when I was there, but thought I saw ADG C of A. at a Building near there?

Nope. I was in lust with a Chi-O and a Pi Phi in my Honors English class, but I was dating an Alpha Gam pledge.
(Her biological and sorority big sister was the reigning Miss Southern Ohio, and worked as a bartender in a local dance bar. How do you miss with these women?)
As for the then future wife, Chi-O, Pi Phi and ADPi wanted her, but her parents forbade (is that the right word?) her to pledge. She did rush, though.

No, I was just confused.
The Chi-O and Pi-Phi houses were (actually still are) right across the street from the university radio station where I worked.
Alpha Gam was a couple of blocks away.
I used to get whip-lash walking down that street.
There were some seriously beautiful women in those houses.

I wonder if she stayed with Delt until the Central Office was moved to Indianapolis.
Not sure.
The article went on to say that in 1954 the Central Office moved from NY, NY to Chatham NJ (home of Mary Jane Grimes Flemmer, Exec. Sec (after she was GP from 1949-1954). The office was in 2 rooms of her house, lol.
1959 - moved to a rented office. The name "Central Office" was changed to "International Headquarters" to emphasize the international reach of Alpha Gamma Delta.
1965 - Move to Indianapolis a red brick Georgian Colonial Mansion north of downtown and became immediate neighbors with 4 Greek headquarters.
1979 - On the 75th Ann., the Fraternity moved to its current location on the north side of Indianapolis where it joined several other Greek headquarters in the College Park neighborhood.

I just checked the Delt website and it says that the NYC Central Office opened in 1913 -- but it doesn't say when it was closed!
I'll check my copy of "Sing To The Royal Purple," the official history and see if I can find out when we moved.

When in doubt, check the official history.
The Delt Central Office was in a building called, "The Delta Tau Delta Club," in New York City, along with some other fraternities.
The Central Office moved to Indianapolis in 1933.

Lambda Chi Alpha is next door to Alpha Gamma Delta on Founders Rd. They are across the street from Alpha Xi Delta and Kappa Alpha Theta. Down the road a piece, you find Zeta Tau Alpha, Theta Chi, Delta Upsilon and Sigma Kappa. Those are the 8 that I know for sure reside on Founders Rd. in Indianapolis. If there are more, feel free to let us know!
