Magic Carpet Ride Disgrace

Was listening to the tv in the background yesterday, and heard Magic Carpet Ride starting to play.

Unfortunately, it sounded like a drugged out 11 year old girl was singing it. Absolutely awful singing!!!!

The best part was it is being used to promote Wendy's new sandwiches. Oh wonderful.

Kind of reminded me when Nike used the Beatle's
song "Revolution" to promote sneakers.

Nothing like taking a song that has significant meaning to hundreds of thousands of people, screw up its meaning, and use it to promote....sandwiches.

Used it for the back ground music on The Dodge Viper, but that is better than a Wendys sandwich!

Brother Hilgar, LX Z is a big shot for Chryslar!

Peace and Love reighns! (?)(SIC)

Whoops, I meant to reply here, and I somehow ended up on the next topic.
I heard both of those commercials. It really sucks when they go and take a popular song, and butcher it for commercial use, whether its an advertisement or in a movie.

Magic Carpet Ride

Well... the meaning it has for us is completely different from the meaning it has for others who don't know anything about our fraternity. I'm sure John Kay, Rushton Moreove, Mike Monarch and Goldie McJohn were completely drugged out themselves when they sang the song at concerts.

Oh well, life goes on. Our brotherhood is about more than some song written by someone who was so out there that he quit the band because a fortune teller told him that California was going to sink into the Pacific.

Speaking of songs, old "urban legend" I heard many years ago:

The members of the rock group Kansas (or some of them) were
Lambda Chis....expelled and "forgotten" by Nationals for
publishing "Carry On Wayward Son", "Fight Fire With Fire" and
"Dust in the Wind". (esp C.O.W.S....love the last verse of that
one). Thus HQ denies they were ever LXA's, and so denies the
whole story!

The best part: adjust the equalizer on your stereo into a
Lambda shape...then listen to the 'secret message' after
the 'evil laugh' during F.F.W.F....what fun! (If you want to know
what is SUPPOSEDLY being said, PM me and I'll give ya a clue)

File that one along with "All fraternity and sorority rituals are
in the Library of Congress except OURS because <fill in the blank
with name of President or First Lady> had ours removed".

Good songs though

P.S.
I just discovered I haven't checked my PM's here in over a year.
I thought no one was sending me any!! Apologies to everyone
who PM'ed me and I didn't reply. I fixed the problem....turned
on the option to email me when PMs arrive here

Supposedly LXA was removed and banned from being in Library of Congress by Brother Harry S Truman as President.

What did the S stand for!

Please PM or Email with Your information joinerlxa!

Tom, that myth is false with the Library of Congress.

Since our ritual was never published, it would not have ever been in the LoC to begin with.

Dar, of course if it was printed, no one could understand it because it is In Code as it the Di Vinci Code!

Last I remembered and has to be learned by The Teachings!

It is also passed along!

So many greeks believe that myth (every fraternity that had
and alum as president, or sorority with an alum as first lady,
all believe OURS is the ONLY one not in LoC).

The LoC gets so many letters/requests regarding this myth that
they have a standard FORM LETTER they send in response
(you can also get it online) that says they don't
have any secret rituals of any fraternity/sorority in the LoC.

Copy of form letter:
http://sweb.uky.edu/~elrous0/wna/loc.gif
(published Aug. 1989)

I've met several greeks, including LX's, who've believed this
for years. Hoover removed KA's, Reagan removed TKE's,
etc. etc.

So if you believed it, don't feel bad...alot of people do!!

Personally, I still believe in the TOOTH FAIRY!

Several fraternity/sorority badges have been taken into space
and returned. I forgot the name of our brother who took ours...
(so there's a new trivia question for ya! he was from UMo)
but I remember a pic in the C&C with him with the badge floating
around in the space shuttle. I believe that badge is on display
in Indy now.

So we have PROOF of that one! ha ha!

Oh, and I'm not a tooth fairy....more like a Santa Claus!

I just happen to be in the middle of reading "First Man", the authorized biography of Neil Armstrong. It mentions that he DID take his Phi Delta Theta (Purdue) badge on Apollo 11, but did not leave it on the moon. It is on display at PDT HQ.

Contrary to popular belief, however, he did not take along his wife's Alpha Chi Omega badge.

Reading is Mind Boggoling isnt it?

If I had read The Di Vinci Code before I went to England, I may ve been very much more interested in looking at Churches!

But, as Fate has it, alas, I just took a lot of Pictures of Old Churches!

Trying to Compare a bit of Di Vinci to the Bible. That is an interesting part of life.

Jono, dont buy it!

Actually, LXA does not own Magic Carpet Ride, We just took it as Our Little Thing that spread far and wide!

But, We do it so well!
