need advice- sympathy gift

May 16th is going to be six months since my housemate passed away. Especially since it falls right after Mother's Day, I wanted to send her family something to let them know that I'm thinking about them. Originally I wanted to send flowers, but shipping for that is too expensive. It was like $21 shipping for a $35 bouquet. What are some other nice things that I can do to let them know that their family is in my thoughts and prayers?

I always thought a card is the best gift someone can give if it's personal. But maybe that's just me.

Send a handwritten note or card. You can also have a tree planted in her memory or make a donation to a charity that would be important to the family. You'll spend a lot less money and have a gift that means a whole lot more.

If you want to send flowers -- contact a local florist in the town where you are sending the bouquet. You can charge the flowers over the phone & there should not be a delivery charge.
