Penny Pints at MD worry administrators

Effective Risk Management

This article makes me laugh. In response to a bar hosting penny pints for women before 11 PM, a group of concerned female faculty members decided to sit at a table near the back of the bar, believing that their presence would discourage young women from drinking. They left, disgusted, after three hours, as their presence had no effect.

Um, how about helping police the events on and off campus by carding, educating students about responsible alcohol management and maybe how they should look out for one another at these kinds of functions?

I applaud them for wanting to do something... but all they did was hang out at a bar and not drink... not exactly "discouraging."

Seriously? If one of my profs had rolled up into the club, I would have bought him/her a drink.

I drink with my history professor quite often. He is always at one of the bars that we go to on Thursdays usually.

And penny pints is really not that big of a deal. They will have penny pitcher nights here often.

I would have had the bartender make up new shots and give them names like "Old Dried Up Bia" (along with the readily available Blowjobs, etc) and send them over to the oh so concerned administrators.

OOOOOOOOOOOH so ouchy for the female Instructors! Did they wear Black Habits?

Hell I drank with My Law Prof the night before a Test. Also Went Flying with Econ Prof and gambled at one of the private Clubs.

They are People too. Who among them want to hang around with stuffed shirts?

Our Advisor is a Prof and I have had a few with He and His Lovely Wife on occasions!

Definitely; profs use to show up all the time at the pub on campus, and some would hold after-class discussions there. It wasn't at all uncommon to see a professor having a pint with a bunch of students.

I used to drink with my profs all the time as an undergrad. We would sometimes stop at dive bars after doing field work all day. It was awesome. It was such a shock when I got to grad schools, and most prof expected me to call them Dr and none of them come drinking.

Why the faculty thought their presence would discourgae participation is beyond me.

We had penny pitcher nights too, those were the days. We could have a few rounds of drinks and be feeling pretty good for only 2 bucks. You dont find that out in so Cal too much...oh midwest how I sometimes miss thee

yeah...I usually just bring a nickle. 5 pitchers will usually do the job for me.
