Sure is quiet on these boards...

Is Erik ok?

Sure is quiet on greekchat without Erik riling everyone up. And what happened to all the visitors, were they all banned or did they just tire of it and leave?

Well, I'm still here. If you want something to rile people up, I got something. I've been talking with HQ about badges. I have found a few for sale at certin places with scroll numbers below 100. HQ wants nothing to do with them. Also, on ebay there are things like paddles and oter historical items from chapters that are still around. For example, there was a paddle from the Rider College TKE chapter from the 1950's. I called them and left messages multiple times and never heard anything back. This is just one example out of many. Most of the things being sold are going very cheap or not even being bid on. Why is it that these chapters don't seem to care about their history?

I think history is very important and very interesting... That's one thing we stress at our chapter (i'm the Epi here)...

Last year, alumni from our chapter from 1959 got in touch with me... Apparently, the guys from back then still hang out, however old they are... A frater in that group passed into the Chapter Eternal last year, and after the funeral, the guys got a hold of the original triangle that TKE chapters are issued to imbed into the walls of their houses (the inverted triangle with TKE)...

We had never seen it before (current actives), so it was a surprise when the 1959 Tekes came over to a meeting and brought it to us... They also brought pictures and magazines from back then... not to mention, a tape of their GREEK SING performance (man, have things changed since then - it was like a classical song in another language - LOL)...

These things I find priceless... most of our ritual equipment also has not changed since 1954... amazing...

People need to see these things... The pictures speak volumes... The way they looked, the way the school was - even the pledge classes... The pledge classes back then were the size of CURRENT ACTIVE CHAPTERS... they had like 30-40 guys in one class... SHEESH! Only sororities are like that now...

I completely agree with stressing the importance of history. The past is what built the strong foundation of rich traditions that we have to work from today.

I recently started corresponding with some of the original founders of my chapter, which was established in 1941. It was great learning about the men that left to serve our nation during WWII, and some of them made it back to finish the chartering after the war in 1947. At least one of them I have been speaking with was actually at the Pearl Harbor invasion.

Derek by the way the mizzou site looks awesome..

The reason HQ wont do anything with what you see on ebay is because we dont have that much room and our Archive room is already packed full... you would be surprised how often staff members are buying stuff for themselves though...

I also have noticed that some of the items you see on ebay are from people whou have bought a house or estate and found the stuff... another reason is because chapters get shut down... like I know alumni who have stuff and would want to give it tot heir chapter but its closed... so they dont have room for it and decide to ebay it because they know more than likely a TKE somehwere will buy it and cherish it..
