Sheryl Crow has cancer

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11552101/

LOS ANGELES - Sheryl Crow underwent surgery for breast cancer earlier this week and the prognosis for a full recovery is excellent, her publicist reported Friday.

The singer-songwriter had the surgery in Los Angeles on Wednesday and is recovering without complications, said Dave Tomberlin, her publicist.

“Her doctors think her prognosis is excellent,” said Tomberlin.

In a statement posted on her Web site, Crow said she would have to postpone a North American concert tour that was scheduled to begin in March. She said she hoped to reschedule the dates as soon as possible.

“Approximately one in seven American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and more than 2 million Americans are living with breast cancer today,” Crow said. “I am joining the more than 200,000 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.”

Crow called the surgery “minimally invasive” and said she will be undergoing radiation treatment as a precaution. She said she benefited from early detection, and urged other women to have themselves checked.

“More than 10 million Americans are living with cancer, and they demonstrate the ever-increasing possibility of living beyond cancer,” Crow said. “I am inspired by the brave women who have faced this battle before me and grateful for the support of family and friends.”

Tomberlin said he didn’t know when Crow was diagnosed or if she had told her former fiance, cyclist Lance Armstrong, who survived testicular cancer.

Supposedly Kylie's been doing extremely well. I haven't heard her pop up in the US news in awhile.

I wonder if the diagnosis had anything to do with Sheryl and Lance's split?

I think I heard on E! the other day that Kylie got engaged to her hot BF? I might be wrong, but they did mention that she's doing well.

Yeah. You're right. She got cancer because they split up. Or maybe they split up because Lance wanted to be the only cancer survivor.

I was looking at it moreso along the lines of:

She got cancer and wants to deal with the diagnosis and treatment...so her relationship and engagement was no longer a priority.

That makes no sense. Maybe it would if I was in rehab.

Rudy not everyone is strong enough to support someone they care about go through cancer treatment.

She's lucky that her diagnosis was early. I hope she does become a survivor.

Rudey, you would be shocked at how often a couple will split up over a cancer (or any other long term disease) diagnosis. Either the sick person wants to focus on getting well, or the healthy person can't handle the SO being sick.

I would hope this isn't the case, but sometimes, when one person has survived a disease, the very last thing they want is to deal with it again - even in another person.

I didn't know about Kylie, either. I wish only the very best for her and Sheryl Crow.

Yeah you might be right. A guy that has said his focus in life is on cancer and his Foundation to counter it clearly no longer wants to deal with cancer anymore - especially what (thankfully) looks to be a non-major case for Sheryl Crow.

And OTW's implication is that Sheryl left Lance to deal with the cancer not that they split up because Lance couldn't deal with it.
