NPC Alumnae Groups

I've recently gotten involved with the Syracuse Alumnae chapter. Last night, one of the alumna mentioned that when she has to meet with other advisors, they seem to want to take longer. She assumed it was because they didn't have other meetings to go to...i.e. their chapter doesn't have a local alumnae group to get together with.

The Dallas area, where I came from, has a Dallas Area Panhellenic Group. It's cool because all sororities were able to meet together and plan for HS college nights, and other community stuff. I'm wondering if anyone else gets involved in these, and how difficult it would be to plan. I think it'd be neat to have something like that up here. ESPECIALLY since there are so many 'orphaned' alumnae here!

NPC has people who help women form new Alum Panhellenics. As someone who recently helped start one I'm going to say that the success depends on the dedication of those who start it and on whether there is a college group for them to get involved with.

I'm surprised Syracuse doesn't have one already.......

I also got an Alumnae Panhellenic [re]started (An old one had disbanded around 1990.). While it's great if there is an active collegiate chapter around, as there is more of a chance that there will then be Alumnae around, that isn't always indicative of how involved people will be in an Alumnae Panhellenic. Sometimes people without a Chapter will be more involved b/c they don't have Advisor duties or a lot of Alumnae Group stuff to do.

The main problem I see is getting people to run for Alum. Pan. Exec. Offices. Our Alum. Pan. is basically run where if your Mem. Group (Sorority) joins (pays dues) then EVERYONE from that Group is considered a Member. That Group picks a delegate, alt., etc., so we'll know who is supposed to vote for them and pass along info, but people tend to think that only those people are Members and don't take a real interest in the Alum. Pan.

In NYC, the Alumnae Panhellenic did many things unrelated to Collegians. Nobody wrote recs and we didn't hold a high school senior night. We did other things and many things were social. When I was a meber in the early 1990s, we have about 15 groups represented.

There's an alumnae Panhellenic in Chicago that seems to be pretty active - and they have a link to GC on their website!
