Kennesaw: the coolest college pres
Headed for retirement soon is Betsy Siegel, 75-year-old president of Kennesaw State U in Atlanta's northwest suburbs.
25 years ago, KSU was a weenie commuter school, but she's changed it into an 18,500 student campus with 800 freshmen living in new dorms.
Six or seven times she has stayed overnight in the dorms, using a "model" room usually displayed to prospective students. She eats with the students, and spent four hours visiting rooms (followed by assts. taking notes, which are followed-up on), talking about George Foreman grills, student loans, and football.
In the morning, she took 10 to breakfast at the Waffle House, where she has breakfast almost every day.
She's led the Univ. into Div. 1 sports (they won D2 championships in BB and womens soccer the last year in D2), and has built some great facilities.
Surely, one of the coolest ever.
