The state Highway Patrol and junior college officials have identified the six young adults killed this morning in a crash five miles west of Wiggins and the two who were injured.
Victims in the early-morning crash on Mississippi 26 were sisters Brittany Jordan, 18, and Carley Jordan, 20, of Ocean Springs, and Biloxi residents William "Jarrod' Thompson, 20, Richard O'Barr, 20, Josh Bozeman, 21, and Candice Newman, 20.
Conditions were not immediately available on Chris Rutland, 21, and John Martel, 20, both of Biloxi. They were taken to Stone County Hospital and transferred to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
O'Barr and Thompson were enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. O'Barr attended classes at the Perkinston campus. Thompson was a student at the Jackson County campus.
The others were former MGCCC students. College officials confirmed that eight of them, excluding Martel, were graduates of Mercy Cross High School in Biloxi.
A tractor-trailer struck the extended-cab pickup around 3:15 a.m. as fog blanketed South Mississippi. Details of the crash are pending from the state Highway Patrol.
Friends of the victims have told the Sun Herald they were returning from Bogalusa when the crash occurred.
