cob stands for continous open bidding-it is sometimes referred to as cor-continous open recruitment. when chapter membership is below campus total(the maximum number of members the chapters may have at one time) chapters may choose to have casual get togethers with potential new members(pnms) with the intention of finding girls who are the right fit for their chapter and offering them a bid(an invitation to join). it is less structured and more laid back than formal recruitment.
most chapters strive to keep the maximum number of members, because the chapter functions more efficiently financially. it also is nice the have the maximum number of members so that the same handful of sisters aren't doing everything.
you feel that you are shy and recognize that you sometimes aren't as outgoing as you could be. that is half the battle. there are numerous threads on greekchat started by girls just like you, who feel that they aren't as outgoing as they could be. lots of people answered those threads with great advice on how to conquer that shyness. see if you can find some of those threads. i think that it would help.give your spring recruitment a try. i take it that your spring recruitment is your schools formal recruitment?
if so , it will give you a chance to see all the chapters, and get a feel for what formal recruitment is all about. if things don't work out the way you want, and you still want to join a sororitym you can let panhellenic know that you would be interested in cor/cor/informal recruitment. in a more relaxed setting, you just might shine. good luck!!
