College Christians persevere in campus atmosphere of decadence
By GARY TANNER
The Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Popular perceptions of college life conjure more images of beer kegs and wild parties than sober students swaying to sounds of Christian rock or joined in prayer.

Stereotypes of wild college life are grounded in hard facts, such as more than one in three U.S. students regularly drinking heavily. But in Nashville, the sellout crowd of 18,000 young adults at the Passion ’06 conference indicates Christians in college aren’t lacking for the company of fellow believers.

....

Dan Souther, a 21-year-old junior at Georgia Tech is a member of a traditional college social fraternity. But he said it does not contradict or weaken his faith.

“My fraternity is not a Christian fraternity by any means. We’ve got lots of hard partiers,” Souther said. “But I don’t want to isolate myself. I want to be able to love all types of people unconditionally.”

And there are other Christian members of his fraternity “who can help me grow,” he said.

Souther is part of a new campus ministry for fraternity and sorority members. Even in social fraternities there are committed Christians who can benefit from and participate in the ministry, he said.

Sounds like an Oberammergau for the collegiate set.

I don't understand the last 2 post. What is the big deal? College kids go to a christian conference? There are Christians on college campuses and in GLOs...what's the next discovery....that the sun rises in the east?

If anything, this article disproves the notion that you can't be Christian and in a GLO (as some people think). Or that you can't go to a secular school and keep your faith.
