COR Party Themes
Hello everyone!
This is my first post, but I have really enjoyed reading what is going on with everyone else. I am a member of the Zeta Psi chapter at UNCG. I am the new RVP. We are starting to have COR parties in January as soon as soon starts. I was wondering what themes other chapters have held. We want to be able to have fun but be able to really meet the girls that come to the parties. We have had Pie with ADPI and 80's themes in the past that have worked out well. Anyone have any fabulous ideas?
Pi love and ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!

Welcome, Caroline! I hope you come to enjoy your GreekChat experience! Reading the threads marked "Important" will get you going - and tell us a little about yourself!
COR can be so different at each school, and my own chapter was absolutely horrible at it when I was there (they have it to a fine art, now!), that I hesitate to offer much advice. The key is to make the PNM feel at home, but without the benefits of membership. Does that make sense? You need to hold out just a little, so they realize that they need to join to capture the full ADPi sisterhood.
Do you have a house, a chapter room, or what? That makes a big difference, too.
Lots of times, having a great movie, popcorn & cokes is enough. For others, going to Ronald McDonald House on a fun project (we just made gingerbread houses) works - it was wonderfully messy, yet fun! If you're Recruitment Chair, I'm sure you have a lot of ideas, but let's PM some of the twists, okay? Anyone from any sorority or fraternity (Greek Letter Organizations - GLOs) can read our boards here.
Again, welcome, Sister! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas break - and especially Christmas day!

Thank you for your great reply!
I am currently a Jr. at UNCG. I am majoring in Communication Studies. I throughly love it in Greensboro! Quite Honestly, joining ADPi my freshman year was the best decision I have ever made. Greek Life is not big on campus but we are the biggest sorority on campus! The sisterhood is fabulous, stressful at times but that always is the case. I have held the offices of PR, Pride Leader and just finished with New Member Coordinator (aka Alpha Mom) It was the most fulfilling office ever. I had the opportunity of having two separate Alpha classes, Spring 2004, and then Fall 05. I just got the office of RVP and I have big plans for the office. I think Recruitment is so much fun and everyone in the chapter should enjoy themself as long as get great new girls. We do only have hall in a dorm. The city of Greensboro does not allow more than six girls in a house or it is considered a brothel. Pretty interesting huh? So having COR parties is difficult sometimes because we have to do them in the parlor of the dorm, which two other sororites can hear us! Well I am off to bed, please everyone tell me more about themselves!!
I am so excited about joining this great ADPI chat forum. This is truly a great source of information!!
Pi love to everyone.

Tempe has the same rule, although it is 4 girls. So the Gamma Rho girls live in the sorority dorms

Welcome to the boards sweetie!!!
When I was in school, I remember one of our COR events we went to this little pizza place in Tucson (like one of those mom and pop places), had pizza and chatted with the PNM's. It was very relaxed because the sisters could easily get up, move around and talk to the girls.
Some other's have mentioned BBQ's, but in January, that might be a little out of the question.
Can't think of anything else. Maybe when I'm in NC next week I'll get hit with a brillant idea. LOL.

Right now I'm coming up with a blank in what my chapter had done in the past (adpi*nurse, can you remember any ideas?) but I'll try to think of what we done and send you a PM (kinda like an instant message - they're fun to get ) or post some general info here!
Let me add my welcome to the rest of our sisters' and hope you find a place to kick back here at GC!

Zeta Eta ADPi is going to try a bunco cr party. Since the pms can take stuff with them at open rush then they can win prizes. If you don't know how to play just know that it is easy . . . A GREAT GAME TO TALK to the girls while you are playing.
If you want me to get more specific then I will. I will tell you how ours goes. I know bunco might be known as an old womans game but I am in a bunco group and (if you are 18 you might think we are, but) we aren't OLD the oldest one of us is 37.
I think it is next week so I will respond again soon.

What about making Valentine cookies for the Ronald McDonald House? That way it shows the PNMs that we think philanthropy is important.
ADPi Conniebama, the bunco party sounds like fun!

Welcome to the boards.
For COR, the best events are ones that integrate regular chapter goings-on with recruitment. This way, you don't overprogram the chapter. Talk to your MEVP about upcoming TME's. Perhaps a workshop that is non ritual/sorority related would be of special interest to the women on campus, and you can coordinate the presentation with the RA's so all campus women residents can attend. Wear letters and set up a sign-in that includes take away items containing your contact info-- IE Pens with your web site. Capture their information and invite the non-affiliated ones to dinner.
Another good COR: Invite women to your large philanthropy fundraisers or sorority service projects. This is a great way for them to see you in action, to get members to participate and to kill two birds with one stone.
Last-- at the end of each term, reward your prides with a Pride Picnic. Invite PNMs-- have a lunch, lawn games and silly prizes for sisters and groups of sisters who have excelled in the past term. Great way for PNMs to see your sisterhood and enjoy an afternoon together.
You can also give your prides authorization to invite PNMs to pride events and to offer bids once the RVP has verified the PNM's eligibility for membership. Pride Activities like dinner, study hours, TV night, going to the movies, etc., are a great way to sub COR.
Bottom Line-- what chapter events already occur that you can piggyback COR onto?
Small point of information. "The brothel law" is actually an urban legend. No such law exists, and has been debunked. www.snopes.com (Also, please indulge this pet peeve of mine: please refer to your officers with their correct titles. We do not have Alpha Moms in ADPi. This position is called New Member Coordinator or NMC.)
Again welcome to Greek Chat. This is a great information resource and a way to connect with ADPi sisters and other sorority women.

I'd really love to hear some more COR ideas!! Formal Recruitment begins MON and we're doing a Philanthropy night (new last year) w/ McD's decorations, making a banner for the RMH and decorating valentine's cookies. Bid Day is SAT and then SUN the chapter & alphas are *supposed to* come to the RMH w/some NJ alumnae to bring cookies & cook dinner. We're going to invite PNM's to join us. Unfortunately, RMH is about 40 mins away and in another state, technically, so that's not an easy feat to coordinate.
Does anyone involve alumnae in their COR or Formal Recruitment (other than tabs & getting refreshments)? Any feedback?

I've found that to an 18 yr-old, 37 is an old lady! Good news is that I no longer care what they think.

Yes, one of life's defining moments for the sorority woman is when she realizes that she's been an ADPi longer than she hasn't been!
My moment came when I was 34...
