Glory Road
Has anyone seen the preview for this new movie? Its about one of the first basketball teams to have black players (in the 60s i think). Plus it has the hottie from Sweet Home Alabama...

Yeah. It about Texas Western College (now UTEP) who won the 1966 NCAA tournament. They had an all black starting lineup and they beat the all-White Kentucky team.
It is a good movie! They had a showing here at UTEP a few weeks back, and many of the of the movie (even Josh Lucas or whatever his name is) came. And a lot of the players from the 1966 basketball team came! It was a star-studded event! lol. Too bad I had a lot of tests and couldn't go! BOOO.
My mom was in school at TWC at that time and she told me about how exciting it was to go to the basketball games. She says it still gives her chills!!
And if you guys watch the part about one of the player's mother...IT IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE!! lol, my mom said that everyone knew about him and his mom (lol..i dont want to give away exactly what happened, so what the movie! lol)

Oh wow, that's SO cool that they had a screening at your school. So did you actually get to see the movie or did you miss it cause of tests? I've heard the movie stays pretty true to the real story, but I'd love to hear what people like your mom think of it when it comes out. Now I'm really curious what the thing is with the guys mom...

Well they had a few showing of the movie at my school, but I missed the "premier" type thing when all the stars of the movie came.
My mom also thinks the movie stayed pretty accurate to what really happened. She didn't see the movie, but I went home and would ask her about different things.
Like my mom didn't have a class with the guy (the one who has a situation with his mom) but she said that it was the talk of the campus..."did you know about so-and-so and his mom...."
I know that my mom is real proud of the movie, even though she hasn't seen it. She knew a lot of the players and she's told me that Haskins made everyone work real hard to get where they got. She told me, "I mean they didn't call Haskins 'The bear' for nothing." lol!
And also during that "premier" week...they changed renamed one of the campus streets to "Glory Road" and wheaties debuted that their new box is going to commemorate the 1966 championship!

I have heard across the board that they are really trying to keep it accurate and stuff, which I think is key. That's hilarious that they called him "the bear." I guess he was known in his day for being tough. Do you think Josh Lucas is good for the role? I was pretty happy when I heard he has such a big role in this movie.

I'm glad that Josh Lucas got the role after Ben Affleck decided to drop out....for some reason I don't Affleck would have done a good job. Eh, maybe that is just cause I don't like Affleck.
Anyways
GLORY ROAD OPENS IN THEATERS TODAY!!!!
Woo hooo!! lol

I know one of the guys that was on that team pretty well. His name is Nevil Shed and he was/is the director of Intramurals and Special Events where i went to school. He is an awesome guy and real down to earth. Everone likes him and he was alwas one of the 'celebrity judges' during greek sing, homecoming parade, etc. The kind of guy that everyone is a friend. Ten years ago when I was there we had always heard that he was on that team and he also played for the Celtics. He'd always wear the championship rings and such, but it really wasnt a big deal for us. Then HBO would be around interviewing him for documentaries, now the movie. Last weekend he was on ESPN or Fox or something. We were at BW3 and I look up and he's on TV. As I said in an earlier post, I cant believe I know someone who is being portrayed in a movie. I am looking forward to seeing it.

How does it compare with Remember the Titans? That was about the first integrated hs football team in Alexandria, VA in the early 70s.
