Telemarketing for LXA

Did anyone else get a phone call asking for donations?

I got one and asked the caller if He was a LX. Nope!

Just wander what the cost per donation ratio is for this.

Pretty high. I did it for my law school this semester and was paid well. Most law schools have been trying to generate income in this manner.

Annoying, yes. Effective, yes.

There is a reason that companies charge big $$$ for telemarketing, because it works and is effective.

No matter how much people hate spam, junkmail or phone calls, it will never stop. Why? Because it works.

However, I am VERY HAPPY that LXA is taking the steps to get more donations.

Either this is a new way of doing things by embracing new methods, or a last ditch attempt for $$$???

I really hope it is a new way.

Anyone know the financial state of the fraternity?

All I know is that they are in the midsts of a capital campaign. Their goal was about 6 mil. As of summer 04, they had raised (if I remember correctly) about $1.5 million, just from board members alone(its common practice in cc's to raise a chunk of the cash before publically announing the campaign.)

This could be a secondary -general brotherhood- phase of the cc.

I am sure we'll get a pretty clear picture of the health of the org at GA in summer 06. It will be based on two things (obviously) revenues and expenses. I will expect expenses to have dropped by a good chunk; we've had no major legal expenses or judgements, staff has been cut, the elimination of the printing of the C&C, and the cutback in conferences (no regional conferences this spring - just the one combined conference in Texas). Although there was the signficant expense (I dont know how much) the new computer database system cost. I do know the cost was shared by the three companies, and was a necessary thing. It also allowed HQ to trim some staff positions... saving more money.

Revenues in 04-05 increased because of the approx 4% increase in new associations. Figures wont be in for this year till March of 06. HQ was expecting an increase this year as well (but I am not aware of an exact percentage expected) because of the Recruitment Boot Camp program. Increased associations equal increased revenues. That, with the capital campaign (although I dont know which company was the reciepient of the CC - since the three 'fraternity companies' are still a new concept to us (less than 5 years old) many still use the term 'fraternity' to refer to all three, when in fact there is the foundation, properties and the fraternity itself. Since the fraternity 'company' was the one in the most dire of straits, I would assume it was the target of the cc's efforts.

Gentlemen,

In addition to my duties on the Board, I am the national chair of the Lambda Chi Alpha “Call to Lead” Campaign, the capital campaign referred to in the earlier post. I’ll bring you up to date.

We kicked the campaign off at the 2004 General Assembly. We have a campaign goal of $6.5 million, and we have raised over $4.0 million to date from a relatively small number of brothers, including members of the three boards (the Fraternity, LCAP and the Foundation), alumni volunteers, and others. Many of these men have made significant – and sacrificial – donations of six figures and above. As I speak about this campaign with brothers around the country, the depth of feeling they have for Lambda Chi Alpha is a great tribute to our brotherhood. In addition, this campaign has given us the opportunity to reconnect with and re-engage brothers with our Fraternity. For this reason, even at this stage, this campaign has been a great success.

The solicitation in this phase of the campaign will be limited to a few hundred brothers. In Phase II, which will be much broader in scope, we will have a goal in excess of $10.0 million. That Phase will be conducted in conjunction with our Centennial we will be reaching out to a much broader representation of our brothers.

The funds raised in this campaign go to the Educational Foundation, the only one of our entities legally entitled to accept tax deductible gifts. These monies are made available to the Fraternity by the Foundation to fund scholarships and educational and leadership development programming.

All the best to Tom, Jono, John G., Eric, and the rest of the good brothers on GreekChat.

In ZAX,
Lynn Chipperfield

Lynn, that's great. I was at the 2004 GA and was proud to hear that a capital campaing had been started.
My only complaint with the Education foundation was that when I needed it, it wasn't available. Previously graduate students were able to apply for a scholorship. While I doubt that I would have recieved it, the fact that one was not even available really upset me. I have donated every semester I was active and was a member of the Mason's Circle. I'll continue to donate, but this really bothered me. Hopefully next year at least one graduate scholorship will be available.

Brother Lynn, thank You for the update on this as You are in a much better situation to be in the know.

While I have never been there as EM1843 has said, I am proud that Scholarships are given to Undergraduate Brothers.

But once again, the thought still remains, What of Alums who go to Grad School.

Granted there is a need to streamline IHQ and still spend Monies on certain areas.

Alums are consider Volunteers which We are but are always being called upon to donate money for Our Fraternity.

The problem is and I do not know where the actual problems is that We are many times left in the cold!

The names that You mentioned are Brothers on GC and We all are here for one reason: Love of LXA.

We give our time and money for this love as I am sure You are very well aware of.

I and many of the Brothers on Site try our best to keep in contact with Our Alums from Our Zetas but is that enough?

Isnt The Actual Focal Point IHQ? Shouldnt They take the point on Keeping Alums updated? This will keep a lot more interest of the Alums whether they are Very Active, a little active, or in the worst case scenerio not active at all.

I know what many of The Brothers on GC do to promote, build, and work with New Members and Alums. But, We are so few comapred to the many that We do not reach.

I wish I had the answers as I am sure most of us do . But, what is the answer?

Are We as a Fraternity really out of touch with The Alums?
