Smile Cookie Shine

I'm looking for ways that chapters do their cookie shines. At Indiana Zeta we pass around a cookie and sing songs. It seems to me there should be more to it. I looked in the fraternity heritage manual and read something about using candles and having special sheets but i'm not sure how to use those.

The cookie shine is a huge part of Pi Phi and I'm looking for a new way to make it bigger at our chapter

A cookie shine is a celebration of Pi Beta Phi heritage and can be as varied as our chapters are. It can be part of the festivities surrounding initiation and pledging but can also be at random times (surprise cookie shines are great ways to spark energy).

Many chapters use a decorated sheet to gather around for cookie shines after initiation, or the Big Sis revealing where the sheet is signed. It then becomes a part of chapter history. That is not the only time a cookie shine is done, and the set up can vary, depending on the situation but the use of a sheet makes it convenient to set out gifts or other treats.

You can also pick one special piece of Pi Beta Phi history and expand it. Jane Heiserman, Alumnae Director for Region 6 has planned some very fun, creative cookie shines for the Officers and for my alumnae Club. Your Regional Programming Specialist is another good resource for you.

If your cookie shines never vary, they may become mundane so I applaud your desire to add some spice!

Our chapter always treated cookie shines as secretive-obviously they aren't... anyways..

We had a sheet which we decorated with tons of candy, drinks, etc. We made shapes of arrows and angels on the sheets. We would all gather around the sheet and those who the cookie shine was honoring would sit around it (i.e. new members, seniors, etc.) They would pass the cookie over their head, draw a halo on the bottom, and break off a piece. Then the girls sitting would get 10 sec to get as much candy or watever as they could before everyone else dove in.

At Illinois Iota we call them Pink Parties. We do the sheets with your family names... your whole family signed the sheet at this party... so it's great to look back on especially your senior year! We also sing and do the big cookie pass. But we put LOTS of candy in the middle of the sheets. We decorate pink cupcakes and make an angel out of it on the sheet.

We also tell stories at these parties. Reasons why we wanted to be a Pi Beta Phi sister and fun stories that have happened throughout your experience. It is always the fun stories, not the stories that make you want to cry... but laugh :-)

Hope that helps!!! I love cookie shines!
