Delt killed in Tennessee School Shooting...

This is also posted in the News forum below...

Delt killed at school shooting in Tennessee
Nov. 10, 2005

Ken Bruce (Middle Tennessee State, 1979) was killed in a shooting at Campbell County Comprehensive High School. A student is allegedly responsible for the action that killed Mr. Bruce, 48, and wounded two other school administrators. The school in Jacksboro, Tenn., is approximately 34 miles northwest of Knoxville, Tenn.

Mr. Bruce retired from a distinguished Army career in 1992 before entering the education field. According to several news media accounts, he was one of the more beloved figures at the high school and often the first administrator students turned to for help.

Unhappy

My Heart goes out to His Brothers, Family, and the Many Students He touched.

It is a senseless situation.

I had no idea that Mr. Bruce was a Delt when I heard about his horrible death. My sympathies to his family, his fraternity family, and to the many others who will be affected by this tragedy.

I didn't either. I saw it on our website yesterday.

Thoughts and prayers to his family, brothers and friends. It's upsetting to read about a fellow Educatior killed or injured by a student.

I have been teaching for 4 years and you just never know what will set a student off. A police officer had to come into my classroom 2Xs in a 4 week period.

My paper's Web site, knoxnews.com, has extensive coverage of this. The burial was yesterday. He sounded like one of those educators you remember fondly all your life.

Question

Did They Mention That He Was a Member of DTD and Decated His Life to Helping Others?

It is To His Honor That He Did This!

These are the things that go unknown!

His fraternal affiliation wasn't mentioned in his paid obituary, and we would not ask about the organizations he belonged to in the midst of such a tragic situation. The two other educators are still in the hospital. The school's principal got on the intercom AFTER HE HAD BEEN SHOT to tell the students the school was in lock-down mode. This has touched their entire community. It's the type of area where everybody knows everybody else.

And yes, every single article has focused on his dedication to his students, plus his deep faith. I'm very proud of our coverage of this horrific incident, and I hope it brings his family some comfort later to be able to look through the paper and see how many people his life touched.

My thoughts and prayers are with Ken Bruce. A distinguished man who has spent time servicing his country as well as touching the lives of students, administrators, and the public will not be forgotten.

Would that there were more teachers and administrators like him, and less idiotic students like the perpetrator.

It sounds as if the paper(s) did a very classy job in reporting this tragedy.

So sad to think that he had been in the army, but he was killed at school.

I will pray for his family and the others at that school.
