I just adopted a new kitty!!
He's a beautiful, black and white cat from the SPCA! He's 3 1/2 years old, and he's a big fatty-also very sweet and laid back. He's so cute!
Now, we have to introduce him to our other cat-which hopefully will go well.
I'm so excited!!

Awww, congratulations! I've been thinking about adopting a kitty, too, since my landlord won't let me keep my dog in my apartment.

I love kitties!! Buffy's not so wild about them (he seems to turn his nose up at them!), but if I weren't allergic, I'd probably turn into one of those cat ladies when I got old!

Haha, I would totally be a cat lady too-whenever I go to Petsmart, I always want to take home like, 3 cats per visit with me. Plus, the puppies, and maybe a bird too....my husband is like, we will not turn into Wild Kingdom!!
I'll post pics though, as soon as I take some ( still adjusting both cats, and then I have to remember how to post pictures).

JennRN, waht is especially Great, is that You adopted from a local Organization in Your area.
Our Local City Dog Pound is in the News for killing Animals brought in, in a day as opposed to the three day waiting list they are supposed to do by State Law.
I know the Moron who runs it from the PD when I was there. I hope they fire His ass! Retired KCK PD Capt. Jack-Off!

Jenn, have you selected a name for your new addition? I love the black & white kitties -- they look like they are wearing little tuxedos.
My roommate after college came home with a black/white cat who liked being a loner (mainly to keep away from the dachshund already in residence!) I named her "Garbo," because she "wants to be alone!"

No, I haven't picked out a name for him yet. My husband and I are trying to compromise on one. He wants to name him Smokey-because our other cat is named Bandit, and then we could have Smokey and the Bandit (har har ). I want to name him Mr. Smudge (keep your food down, please) because he has a white mouth, eith a small black smudge on each side-so cute!!
So like I said, we're still trying to find a name we both like.

You should name him George.

Jenn-
I am so happy to hear that you adopted not only from the SPCA, but that you adopted an adult kitty!! They often get overlooked for the cute little kittens.
Please be sure to give him a few days in a room by himself to adjust before you start introducing him to your existing cat. He has already been through a lot. Let him settle into his new home's sounds & smells before letting the cats meet one another. You don't want to stress him out TOO much all at once.

He's actually in our spare bedroom, with some food, water, and his own litterbox. We've kept him in there all yesterday, and today. Our old cat smelled the carrier when we brought him home, and he's smelled the new cat on us too. I'm at the step where you open the door and let them see each other, and our old cat has hissed at the new one, who purrs at him. I'm dying to let our new cat out, because I feel like we're neglecting him by leaving him in there-and I keep going in to visit him, and I just want to let him out so bad!! I'm thinking maybe tomorrow? I just feel so bad that he's in there by himself!!

Don't feel badly! I bet he is purr-fectly happy in there with a private bathroom & his own buffet!
I usually keep a new cat quarantined for a minimum of a week. This allows the cats to learn about one another under the door without fights. It also helps ensure that the new cat is not incubating any kind of viruses that could be transmitted to my existing cats.
Take a look at The Denver Dumb Friend's web site. They have a wonderful section on cat issues & behavior.
