Some of ya’ll may remember me, some of you may not. I thought I should come back and let ya’ll know that I’m alive and well. Some of may have seen me on the AsTheSandsBurns Yahoo Group. Well to those of you who don’t frequent that site, this is what I have been up to since my hiatus.
My novel, [i]Hold On Be Strong/[i] has been re-released through Martin Maasai/Vic Mar Publications (ISBN: 0-9712309-8-6/$14.99) two weeks ago. Amazon.com is already selling this and the previous version on their site already. They should receive the cover next week or so, but this is the book. For those of you who haven’t read the novel, here is a synopsis:
Like any good man, Second Chance misses his mother. After her death, Second must make the decisions about the friends and family in his life to ensure the development of productive relationships that are the best for him and his children.
Brenda is his “on-again, off-again” ride or die chick that is the mother of his eldest child. His half-brothers Hope, Passion & Love all deal with having different fathers and the impact that it has had on their lives. Allen is his best friend and roommate who just can’t stay out of trouble.
Not too many people get a chance to change or start over while things are good, but when the choices that Second must make affect his family, friends and his own life, he must make those choices carefully.
In addition, I recently started the second season of my webdrama, “Hold On Be Strong.” The characters are based on two of the novels I have written. You don’t have to read the book to read the drama and best part is that it is free. There is a new episode every Monday (ok, sometimes Tuesday but I’m trying) on the site so check it out. I also serve as Victor L. Martin (author of
For the Strength of You, A Hood Legend & Menage’s Way) business manager. He is currently incarcerated in a North Carolina Correctional Facility and I see him and talk to other prisoners often. It is a challenge but one I step to the plate and look forward to facing.
Well, other than that, I’m doing okay. I work for an organization that provides community-based programs for adults and children with developmental disabilities, children with emotional and behavioral challenges and their families and individuals with acquired brain injury. It’s alright, I like the job and the clients I work with. They challenge me to be stronger as a person and to be a stronger Christian.
Speaking of which, after all these years I finally found a church home. St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem so those of you who are in town for Winston-Salem State University’s Homecoming (which I will be attending because I am an Aggie and a Ram), are more than welcomed to come into God’s house. If you don’t go to my church home, then please go to another bible based church, regardless of denomination.
Other then that, I have two new books coming out this Spring 2006.
Worth Fighting 4 (formerly known as
Ready 2 Fight ISBN: 0-9712309-9-4/$14.99) which is a about a group of sixth graders who fight a notorious gang for control of their middle school. It is loosely based on an experience I had as a youth. An official release date hasn’t been set but I’m pushing for February 21, 2006. This will be my first new novel in THREE YEARS. The other book is called
The First Lady and it is my first foray into Christian Fiction. It is about a Christian woman’s race to become Miss Gilbert State University and her campaign manager’s new walk and redemption in Christ after renouncing his past as a successful independent adult video star. This book is a present not only to my God and my mother, but for all of those who have sketchy past who need the encouragement in their journey to follow Jesus.
