Excerpt from the October 17
Daily Tar Heel:
UNC fraternity Beta Theta Pi has been placed under social probation for the fall 2005 semester for violating the Interfraternity Council’s recently instated (sic)
code of conduct for pledge education.
The 42-member fraternity was charged with “verbal harassment and placing new members in a subservient role during a new member ritual event at the house,” said Jay Anhorn, assistant dean of students.
Anhorn said he received an anonymous e-mail report Sept. 21 claiming that a violation had occurred.
The report warranted further investigation, and on Oct. 3 the Greek Judicial Board heard the case and found Beta Theta Pi guilty of the violations.
