greek life at EMU

Hi guys!

I'm going to go through recruitment at Eastern Michigan University this fall. Does anyone go there who could tell me a little bit about what to expect?

Thanks!

I am an EMU alumna and am still pretty in touch with the campus and our chapter there. If you've read all the Southern Recruitment threads, you'll get an idea of what EMU Recruitment is NOT. Just like the campus, recruitment is fairly laid back. Recs are unheard of. You will have a recruitment counselor to give you information and help you through the process.

First parties begin September 19th with Preference parties on the 23rd and bid day on the 24th. Preference will be dressy so you should have a nice dress to wear that day (I hope to be at Pref). There are 9 NPC groups and a long time local sorority called Sigma Nu Phi. Sigma Nu Phi usually does not participate in formal recruitment. Quota is usually between 9 and 14 women. Chapter total is 55, but few chapters are at total. Most of the chapters there have some sort of house, but they are rented from local landlords, not owned by the sororities. Some are official houses and some are not, but are used like official houses. The NPC sororities are:
Alpha Gamma Delta
Sigma Kappa
Alpha Xi Delta
Sigma Sigma Sigma
Sigma Delta Tau
Alpha Sigma Tau (they were founded at EMU)
Delta Zeta
Phi Sigma Sigma

Hope that helps! (I was as non-biased as I could be). The campus as a whole is great and so is the Greek system, even though it's not huge. Being Greek at EMU really makes you feel more a part of a University.

Dee

Thanks for the response! My sister's best friend is in a sorority at EMU, so it was nice to hear non-biased opinions, lol.

Hi EMUGirlyGirl! Here are some IMPORTANT dates for you for Recruitment:

9/18 @ 6:00pm: Recruitment Kick-off
9/19 OR 9/20 @ 3:30pm: Day 1- Open House
9/21 @ 4:30pm: Day 2 (Invitation Round)
9/22 @ 5:00pm: Day 3 (Invitation Round)
9/23 @ 6:30pm: Day 4 (Preference Round) & Bid Card signing
9/24 (not sure of time): Bid Day

*The Kick-off is not required, but recommended you go. This is where you meet your recruitment counselors (Rho Chi's) and the rest of your group.

*Day 1: you pick which day you want to go to. This round is open for everyone to attend. You will see all 9 chapters this day.

*Day 2: You will find out on this day which chapters have invited you back for the 2nd round. You will visit up to 6 chapters. The # of chapters you visit depends on the number that invite you back.

*Day 3: You find out in the morning which chapters have invited you back for the 3rd round. You will visit 4 chapters. The # of chapters you visit depends on the number that invite you back.

*Day 4: You find out who has invited you back for the Preference Round. You will visit up to 2 chapters this day. Following the Preference ceremonies that you attend, you will sign a bid card.

*Day 5: BID DAY! This is when you find out which chapter has extended you a bid to join their chapter. Very fun!

For more information, look around campus for tables in the Union. These girls can give more information and answer any questions you may have!

All events take place at the Union!

There are 9 chapters who are participating in Structured Recruitment:
Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Sigma Tau
Alpha Xi Delta
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Sigma Sigma
Sigma Kappa
Sigma Nu Phi
Delta Zeta
Phi Sigma Sigma
