Cars & Gas
The gas thread in the News forum got me thinking.
What cars out there are excellent on gas mileage?
I have a Mountaineer V-8 and I'll be getting rid of it next year. It's my 4th one and I love them but gas is just too expensive to fill it up. I was thinking about the Honda Tribute.

Ya mean the Mazda Tribute? The Ford Escape is similar (Mazda is owned by Ford).

Lol yeah that's what I meant! I just realized I got them mixed up. It's too early for me!

The Tribute gets about 27 highway. That's not that great, IMO. If you really want a car that gets excellent mileage, you're probably going to have to get a CAR, rather than an SUV.

I really doubt I'd know how to drive a car in the winter. I've actually never driven a car in the winter, plus if I end up finding a job like an hour away I wouldn't want to drive snowy expressways in a car. I love my 4wd.
I mentioned the Tribute because my aunt in New York has one, and drives a half hour to work. She only fills up once a week, and when gas over there was $2.45, it only took her $30 to fill up the tank. My tank, at $2.20something, cost $40 some to fill.

My family owns a Tribute. The best it gets is 27. We live in Wisconsin. It's not like you get more snow than we do or anything...
My boyfriend has a decrepit Escort, I have a newer Protege. We both get 40+ on the highway.

My Chevy Cavalier gets 30 highway, 28 if I have the a/c on. It used to cost me $10 to fill the tank. Now it costs me $25, but I can go around 330 miles per tank.
I want a hybrid.

My Honda CRV gets really good mileage and it's a fun car to drive! It's a small SUV (built on the Accord platform, I think) so it doesn't eat up gas.

If you're worried about driving in the snow, get a Subaru. That's what everyone in Colorado has, and I never crashed mine even when I lived in the mountains.

A Scion gets excellent mileage...something like 35 miles to the gallon. Of course, they're ugly as Hell, but...well, you can't have everything.

Yeah or you can get a cute car like mine that gets 40 and doesn't scare other drivers!

I really need a new car.
My ride is a gas guzzler and I think only gets 15-16 miles a gallon. Maybe 18 on the freeyway, if the 405 doesn't have people jumping out of hummers... but that is me being optimistic.
And since I HAVE to get supreme gas now prices have soared up to where I live at 3.30 bux a gallon. today I filled up the tank for 70 bucks.
I normally filled it up for 55 bux before.

I have a Lexus IS300 and it gets pretty good gas mileage (35ish on the highway, 25ish in the city), however with rear-wheel drive it's absolute crap in the winter time. And you have to use premium gas which makes it just as expensive as an SUV, so in all reality it's not very practical...but it sure is cute.
In all seriousness though I'd say a Subaru, I've never driven one or actually been in one but everyone I know that has one LOVES them...

Sheesh! It's not that bad here yet (about $2.45/gal [unleaded]), but I remember when I was a kid, and the gas cost $.85! I remember thinking I'd never pay $1.50 a gallon like those silly people did back in the 70s...
