Sigmas, share your recruitment stories!
What's your story? How did you end up a Sigma? I'll start....
Freshman year (fall 2002), I came to Kent State. I knew I wanted to be in a sorority there since my mom and stepdad are both Greek. I signed up for recruitment, but decided against it. I thought it was impossible for a black girl to be accepted by a "white sorority". I decided to get involved in other stuff and establish my GPA.
So I got involved with Kappa Phi, my service club which I love and enjoy alot. I spent my freshman year just having fun and earning my Dean's List GPA. I did my research on several sororities on my campus. I was actually quite interested in one at one point, but some of their practices made me decide not to pursue them anymore.
By spring of sophomore year (2004), I really still wanted to join a sorority, but I really didn't know which one at this point. In the spring, all the sororities doing COB put ads in the school paper. I decided to check out Sigma since I'd seen them around campus and they seemed like nice girls.
I contacted the chapter and they had 3 sisters meet me for lunch in the cafeteria. They answered all my questions and were all very funny and made me feel comfortable. After that I guess they decided that I shouls come to an official COB and meet the rest of the girls.
My first event was cookie baking at the house. The girls were all so funny and down to earth. They all seemed genuinely interested in getting to know the PNMs. By the end of the night, I'd been invited to a KSU b-ball game with 3 other sisters.
I went to the game and had tons of fun. I decided that this was where I wanted to be and I hoped I'd get the chance to be a sister.
I was told that someone would call me that Monday. That day came and I was on the edge of my seat. By 6 pm that evening, I still hadn't gotten a call. Well, on my way out of a lecture around 8 pm, I ran into the recruitment chair. She told me to come to the house that next night but didn't say what we'd be doing.
I went to the house the next night. We were playing Outburst and I figured it was just another event. In the middle of the game, the VP came out and said "Sisters, I have an announcement..." I kept playing since the annuncement was for sisters. I looked up, and I see her bringing out 3 goodie bags. She then says "The sisters of Sigma Sigma Sigma invite you to join our sisterhood".
Myself and the other 2 girls were so suprised. We were convinced we weren't getting bids when no one called us that day. I accepted, and the rest is history.
NOTE- If you're going to mention other sororities in your story, use code names like ABC or XYZ. We wouldn't want to offend anyone.

At F&M we have deferred recruitment, so we have all first semester to get to know the girls. Day one I knew I wanted to go greek b/c the orientation advisors that were assigned to my hall were greek. The girl, was a sigma.
Throughout the semester I got to know the girls through various events at the house, and seeing them out at parties. When it came time for formal recruitment in the spring, I was sure I wanted to go Tri-Sigma. Though as i got to know the girls in my group i found out a lot of them were going to go to the other soroity(there are only two sororities on my campus).
I was tossing every scenario back and fourth in my mind. I had also started to hear so many rumors about the NM process in sigma, that i was scared.
On pref night I was torn. I got to the room to sign my bid card and put the other sorority first. I got back to my dorm, and burst out in tears. My friend told me i looked like my dog had just died or something. After sitting for a few minutes i ran back to the room where i signed my card and banged on the door. I told them i needed to change my bid card.
I knew i had made a mistake, and that i had let the rumors being spread around get the best of me. I changed my card, had sigma first, and ever since that moment i have been thankful because i have found something in sigma that i could not have found anywhere else. I love all my sigma sisters, and will always be thankful to those few panhellenic people that let me do what i had to do.

Well I was a transfer student to Armstrong Atlantic State University. That first semester I didn't do anything since it was the Spring semester. However, by the middle of the next semester I began seeing flyer around campus for Sigma. I went to their table and got the dates of recruitment. When I went to the events I knew it was for me.

While going through recruitment I thought my Rho Chi was an amazing woman. I was so excited on bid day that she was a member of Sigma. We all had her pinned as being in another sorority. I literally cried when I found out she was a Sigma.
