Question...

I am formatting a focus group for my practicum. I thought of using this question, just curious to hear responses....

Can cultural pride be mistaken for ethnocentrism? Are these concepts similar?

All comments are welcome...

I think that while these two concepts are similar they are quite different. Ethnocentrism is the "belief in the superiority of one's own ethnic group" while cultural pride is expressing an appreciation for one's ethnic group which does not necessarily imply a sense of superiority.

I think that this will make for an interesting focus group. Good luck!

Thanks for the comment...

Would you advocate encouraging individuals to..for a lack of better words, "mind" the way they express their love for their ethnic heritage for fear or concern of how they may be preceived by other ethnic groups?
