Vls 2006

VLS (Volunteer Leadership Seminar) 2006 is going to be held at...

CALLOWAY GARDENS, GEORGIA

I believe it is 60 miles southwest (or northwest) of Atlanta.

The dates are June 15-18, 2006

Callaway Gardens is 77 miles from Atlanta and about 98 miles from Macon. Now I got this from mapquest.

I figure I'll just stay a couple days after (or come in a couple days prior) so that I can go to Atlanta and Macon.

We should definately try to plan something and meet up there. Even if we aren't all attending VLS, but just to go to Macon and Atlanta.

This is actually Brianna, I don't know how or why my computer changed to polarpi.

Jennie says "Hi".

Calloway Gardens and Macon and the Headquarters are all about an hour drive from me! (In different directions, of course!) Now, who is VLS for?

The last time we were at Calloway, ADPi did arrange a road trip to Macon- we got to see the Cannon Ball House as well as Rose Hill Cemetery. I'm hoping they'll do that again!!!

VLS is for the volunteers- IOs, AA officers, HC officers, Advisors. They'll also be having an IMPACT seminar for collegiate emerging leaders.

Should be fun!

Someone told me last year that anyone who volunteered for ADPi could attend VLS.

I know that I plan to attend to gather more information, I do hold a position in the local AA but it is a minor one (not president).

I should be there.

This is my understanding of VLS. At least 1 Advisor (usually the Chapter Advisor) should attend for leadership training. Chapters are also required to send 1 delegate to IMPACT. This should not necessarily be the Chapter President, but rather a younger member who would be considered an "up and coming" leader in the house. It is also strongly suggested that House Corps and Alumnae Assocs send at least 1 rep too. Above and beyond that, if the Chapters, HCs or AAs can afford to send more then that's great.

Personally I'm not aware of many folks who go to VLS just to go, unlike Convention. VLS is much more of a working/learning seminar while Convention is more of a party (aside from the business meetings). But as far as I know, there's nothing preventing anyone from going who wants to and if you are interested in the training, then by all means come. On the plus side, VLS registration is usually cheaper than Convention because it's not nearly so fancy.

VLS is for alumnae volunteers to ADPi - international officers, advisors (as many as the chapter can afford to send and are willing to go) it's main focus is for the alumnae who assist chapters, but since we have so many sisters who wear an advisor hat and are members/officers of alumnae associations too, we have had a session on departure day from about 9-12 for sisters that are association officers/members.

For anyone who remembers "Conference" it's a little different. The past two VLS sessions also had IMPACT (I can't remember what it stands for anymore...) which was for up-and-coming collegiate members - not necessarily your senior president, but sophomores & juniors who look to be good leaders of the chapter in the next couple of years.

The chapter members who attend don't receive any specific officer training at IMPACT. All members who are new officers (executive committee & a few others) are required to attend District Leadership Conferences which are held in each district in January-February and March on a weekend. The officers get very in-depth training by the International Officers on the district team. This allows for more personal contact with those IOs that know the district and work directly with your chapter. Advisors also attend.

DLCs are great for anyone who is a new advisor - you learn a lot! They're also a very jam-packed weekend, starting Saturday bright & early and going until 9 or 10 at night, then a short session until 11 or 12 Sunday.

The two run concurrently - with the only real time together collegiate/alumnae is at some of the meals.

Oh, I forgot to mention...

The first time I was at Calloway there was an extra trip to see Executive Office. With all of the renovations and the addition, I would be surprised if they didn't offer something like that again.

The last time I was at Calloway, there was a side-trip to Macon...to Wesleyan College, Eugenia's grave & the Cannonball House.

So - cross your fingers...it may all be a part of the "schedule."
