Transition from Collegiate to Alumnae

What does your GLO do to mark the transition from collegiate status to alumnae status? Does this include Alumnae or it strictly Collegiate involvement? What do you think would make more newly graduated women become involved as an alumnae?

we have a ceremony conducted by the local alumnae president that welcomes the collegians into the alumnae world. we also do the ceremony at our statewide zeta days. however, you do not have to have participated in the ceremony to be considered an alumna.

Alpha Gamma Delta has a Senior Rededication ceremony for collegians becoming alumnae at the end of the semester. It is considered Ritual, but the ceremony is just that -- a rededication.

It's a beautiful ceremony that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Still, one does not have to participate in this ceremony in order to become an alumna.

I think our Junior Circles (alumnae groups for recent alumnae sisters under the age of 35) play a great role in making that transition easier! I know mine's awesome!

Alpha Xi Delta also has a Senior Ceremony - this is usually conducted by the chapter - and of course is not mandatory to be considered an alumnae.

Our ladies go through a ceremony to mark their passage from collegiate members to alums. It is very moving & had me crying from the start.

We have an alumnae induction ritual that we do at the end of senior year. You don't have to do it to be considered an alumna (i.e. girls who leave the school, who graduate in January, who can't be at inductions for whatever reasons), but most of our alumnae have been inducted.

Thumbs up

Lambda Chi Alpha has a Ritual for Graduating Seniors who are going to become Alums!

I was the First one to go through is because of a snafu. Just two Years Ago.

I was asked after all of the years, 1967 to Be The "Candidate". Odd isnt it for The Founder to do this.

I was just as scared as when I went through Original Ritual.

It was very impressive, just glad I didnt pass out from being so rigid!

Remember folks, Actives try to run the Chapter, but Alums have been the back bone for Years!!!

Who do you call? Wonder Dawg, no Alums.

ADPi also has a ceremony for graduating seniors. For some reason I can't remember, I wasn't able to be there for it. I had always felt I had missed out on an important part of being an ADPi.

Then in '97 when I started working with our Chapter at the University of Alabama, we celebrated our 90th anniversary on campus. ADPi's Grand President at the time came for the celebration. As an added bonus she conducted the ceremony for seniors and included any of the alums who hadn't gone through as well. Now I've got a very special memory of that ceremony.

We also have a ceremony to mark the transition to alumna status. And since this is bordering on ritual, that's all I will say.
