Over rated beauty products
I don't think there's a thread on this.... I could be wrong though!
What are some beauty products that everyone seems to rave over but when you've used you've been disappointed?
In my ebay store I sell Estee Lauder magnascopic mascara like hotcakes. I needed some new mascara, so I pilfered a tube for myself. Yuck, not a fan. Clumpy and flakes and the brush part of the wand is too big.
Also, Lancome's Juicy Tubes. I have a tube that KR actually gave me (yes, she rocks). It's okay, especially for layering over something, but it's SO gooey!
Clinique lip gloss is also really tacky-gooey and always smells funky

i agree! clinique lip gloss stinks!
i wear a lot of mac, but some stuff i disagree with. like the facial spray, i don't think it's worth it. this one mascara is super clumpy and smears, but i don't remember what it is called.
do you sell mac stuff, i need to fill up my eyeshadow palette???

I have this Christian Dior Ultimeyes mascara that is absolutely TERRIBLE. Not only is it clumpy but it comes off really easily like after about an hour of wearing it. YUCK.
I have bought a lot of expensive lip balms from places like MAC., Prescriptives, and none of them have ever worked all that great. Carmex is awesome for chapped lips and it's super cheap.
As a side note, I am absolutely ADDICTED to Juicy Tubes. I know that they're really sticky but I just absolutely love the way they look on and I've been wearing them for so long that I have just gotten used to the stickiness I guess.

Absolutely! I always wear my hair in a ponytail when I'm wearing Juicy Tubes because my hair gets stuck to my lips and it's gross. Did I give you any MAC lipglass? That's even gooier! Great shine, though.
On the overrated front:
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. I'm always reading about how this is a "must have" for the big name makeup artists, but it clumps and smears on me.
Chanel Glossimers. Just an average-to-poor performing lip gloss with a ridiculous price tag.

I know a lot of people are talking about make-up but I hate the Dove Shampoo. I mean I consider shampoo a beauty product because if you don't wash your hair . . . well . . . it's not beautiful.
The Dove Shampoo and Dove hair product make my hair so oily I could literally shake my hair and make enough grease to make french fries. Clairol's Herbal Essences shampoo and product make my hair do the same thing as Dove hair stuff. Blah!
Eucerin facial products break my skin out really bad. I mean bad enough to have to use Proactiv and I rarely breakout on my face or anywhere.

Y'know... I had an issue with it drying out my skin. And it was for sensitive skin too! I use their lotions for extremely dry skin, but I'm staying away from their facial line.

Amen!! That stuff is terrible, I just do not get the fascination with it at all. If you're in to putting mascara on your bottom lashes (which I am very much against) it works pretty well for that, but then you gotta use the waterproof kind otherwise you'll become a raccoon instantly.

Unless you have skin of steel that is good and oily, Proactiv and Dermafina will KILL it! I had horrible redness after a month of trying both products (at different times of course) and my skin is not THAT sensitive. The redness took months to go away.
Also, I've said this before but that in-shower lotion is crap.
Oh - also Garnier Fructice is horrible on the scalp.

Agreed!! It felt like I had washed my hair in styling wax.. I had to get some special shampoo from Aveda to get the build-up out of my hair.. yuck
On the note of Chanel Glossimers... I live and die by mine. I have yet to find another color of lip gloss that is as well suited to my skin tone. You do, however, have to use a light hand when you put it on, otherwise you'll come out looking quite cake-y.

Agreed, I love my Chanel Glossimers and I agree that you have to apply with a light touch. What sucks is that I have to keep mine in a sock in my makeup bag (lol I know, classy) because they leak everywhere and make everything glittery and sticky.

PoohsHoneyBee, no, I generally don't sell any MAC products, sometimes i'll get a few things, but I generally don't have much, if any. MAC is hard to get ahold of and pretty expensive to buy.
KR, nope, no Chanel lip gloss. Though I use the rest of what you gave me pretty often, most of it is awesome.
Hmmm... what you guys have said about Garnier Fructice might explain why my hair has been so dull and blah lately. I religiously used Herbal Essence, then I had picked up some GF for a change, and my hair has been blah. Or it could be due to the weather... who knows?
Another on my "so what?" list is Estee Lauder Idealist Skin Refinisher. It makes your skin feel soft, but that's about all the difference it made to me. And it costs an arm and a leg!
I like how Clinique Quickeyes eyeliner goes on, but it never lasts.

I think that Clinique, in general, just sucks. There are two things they sell that I will continue to purchase -- their "Happy" line and their foaming mousse cleanser.
I also haven't found anything by MAC that I like either, except for the makeup bag that I bought last year.
I agree w/ those who said that Estee Lauder's mascara is overrated -- every one that I've tried has come out clumpy. I take them back and the ladies tell me I'm using them wrong. Whatever.

Herbal Essense products made my hair fall out. Not drastically. I just lost a lot more hair than usual.
Funny everyone mentions Fruitice... I've been buying the stuff because I can't afford my salon stuff right now. But then my stylist told me that the nicer it smells, the more alcohol is in it. And I have been wondering why my hair has been so dry lately, even after a day old haircut.

I agree about Great Lash - it's like black water. The waterproof is semi-OK if you let it get dried up (i.e. keep it past the point you are supposed to keep mascara).
Dani, since one of my coworkers called me the hippie of the department I'll give you my organic advice - I tried Lavender shampoo & conditioner from Avalon (I got it at Whole Foods) and my hair looked better after using it than it has in a long time.

I really like Garnier Fructis! I used to use Matrix products and I like Garnier's stuff better than that. I think the wax tames my hair pretty well. I also love Clinique stuff.
I've never understood Lancome. I used to buy their makeup, and it definitely isn't worth the price.
