Wierd thing with AIM?

I got this IM out of the blue from someone on my list, when I clicked on the link my IM starts acting odd.

I got someone's away message that I hadn't sent an IM to . . . someone warned me that I hadn't IM'd at all . . . so I logged off AIM . . are there wierd programs that will make your AIM go bonkers?

ETA: If so do I have to reinstall the program?

You probably have a virus. A friend of mine got it, and I clicked the link, but it didn't work. I IM'd her the next time she was on, and she said that she never IM'd me....turns out she had a virus. I don't think I got the virus though, b/c I didn't download anything.

You most likely have a virus of sorts. There are many viruses that get circulated via links on AIM. When you click on a link in someone's profile or away message, it will install intself on your computer. Try running anti spyware and adware programs (SpyBot, SpyWare Doctor, Spy Sweeper, and LavaSoft Ad Aware are the good ones, a lot of other ones will just download more stuff to your computer). Also go to your control panel, click on "Add/Remove Programs" and see if there's anything on there that you haven't installed yourself, and delete it. Talk to your friends who had the virus, and ask them how they got rid of it.
