SAE kicked off at Tennessee

SAE, was informed on Monday night that they were going to have their charter pulled and would have to vacate their fraternity house by the end of the week. There chapter ran into many problems this year with the police. Many people associated with the Greek scene saw this coming. I am not at liberty to say what happened, even though I work at the police station and heard rumblings about their numerous problems. I am sure this information will be posted later in the week.
I am in another fraternity at Tennessee and all I have to say is this is a major blow to the greek scene at UT. The SAE chapter at UT was considered one of the best in the school for a very long time until the past 15 years or so. They were the first chapter to go over 1000 members, had close to 200 members at one point, and were considered one of the top chapters out of any fraternity in the country up until the late 80's. I was very close to going SAE, have a bunch of friends that were SAE's and my dad was an SAE, so it sucks to see their brothers in the dumps right now. Also, KA was kicked off my fresh year at UT and with both of these fraternity's gone, greek life will not be as dominant as it once was. Rumor is KA, will be back in 2 years, which is good news.
These guys were fun, well rounded fraternity, and it really seemed like the universities administration was targeting them. They held the annual SAE boxing tournament, where they raised over $60,000 dollars a year for the Ronald McDonald House, this was one of the top three greek philanthropy's in the country and people from all over came to this event.
Overall, they made some mistakes and it will be a bigtime blow not having them at the University of Tennessee.

About 1/2 of the good fraternities are on probation at Tennessee this spring, many for hazing reasons, some for alcohol, and others for fighting/various problems. These problems were kept very quiet by the administration and greek scene but now a lot of information will come out because SAE has been kicked off. Most of the fraternities are on spring probation, SAE was one of 2 fraternities that was going to be on fall 2005 probation.
Don't worry Firecracker, I do not think ATO, and Lambda Chi will be getting kicked off anytime soon because neither is on probation at the moment.

Ryan, Has the student newspaper ran an article about SAEs closing yet? If and when they do, post the link.

"Good" in this case must mean "socially prominent," right? As opposed to any legal or moral value judgment.

If this information's true, I hope Tennessee Greeks can turn things around.

There is no student newspaper right now, the paper stops on the last day of class, this is one reason why this info will take a long time to leak. Yes this info is true, but obviously many people need sources to believe everything they hear these days, sorry to keep you waiting on this one. Good fraternities, there are a lot of those at UT, I would consider about 3/4 of the fraternities good, so it is not just the ones that are socially superior as the ones that are dealing with probation. The administration is very strict with alcohol policies and when fraternities get in fights. Its a common occurance at many schools, not just at UT. Like I said, this information is out faster than newspapers will know about it. I believe the earliest they will post an article will be on Friday, because they want to get as much junk and info as they can. Check the Knoxville News Sentinel for updates. They painted the rock today, a landmark at UT where people post messages. Today it was painted by sorority girls and said "We Love U SAE, Don't Leave", I remember the rock had those same words 3 years ago except KA was substituted for SAE.
I posted this thread to give people a heads up and to say this is a blow for the greeks at UT, and SAE in general. This is my last post in regards to this topic, I have exams to worry about right now. Like I said, I am sure somebody will dig up info in regards to this situation and the newspapers will blast SAE in Knoxville because they hate athletes and greeks. As for now, you will have to take my word on it and you can check your sources when they come out, wait around, should be an interesting article.

oops, I forgot that the Daily Beacon was closed during finals....my bad....

did not mean to imply that you were fabricating the information but to provide the link for those who might want more info ( as it seems to be the tradition on GreekChat ).
