Carolina Initiative / Event
It wasnt too long ago that I heard of something that might be in the works for all of the North and South Carolina chapters. It was an event that would be hosted one weekend or something and everyone would be invited. At the time thought it would be a great idea, but havent heard anything of it since.
Here in Charlotte, we get to spend some time every now and then with the High Point, NC chapter and are trying to start some stuff with the USC-Aiken Chapter. I would really like to see the chapters in the Carolinas come together and do something like this. I would even go as far to say we could host it here in Charlotte.
I know along with my own chapter, Chapel Hill has a very strong chapter, so does Aiken (even as young as they are). I charge all of you out there to think this over and get back to me on what we could do. I think we could take allot from an event like this.
Hell if it was only one day on a weekend this summer, that would be pretty interesting. Have a barbeque, some brew, some football or baseball, and maybe even some of those past time drinkin games that each of us thinks we're unbeatable at.
Please take this back to your chapters and step up to the plate and help me get something started on this.
Email me or reply here on this thread........

NC Chapters
I like the idea of getting both states together, it would take a great deal of organization and planning, some chapters might be hesistant because it will also cost $$$$.
Getting all the chapters in North Carolina alone to meet will be a task that will be hard to do by itself. ECU, App St, Elon, Wake, UNC-G, UNC-CH, NC A&T, UNC-C, that is a lot of schools in spread out areas. This would be extremely interesting because I have met brothers from everyone of these chapters except Wake Forest, and talk about an eclectic group of brothers. None of these chapters are a lot alike, except ECU and App St. Not that most chapters are alike, I just think it would be fun to see different chapters intermix.
Thinking of all the chapters we have had in NC in the past we have lost some strong ones there that need to be reestablished including:
Western Carolina- best chapter on campus, shutdown because a brother died in an alcohol related accident about 5 years ago, they should be coming back soon.
Duke- did not like that the school was letting minorities into fraternities, they protested and left. They were a strong chapter but what a stupid decision when looking back on it.
NC State- shutdown, low membership, owed a lot of money to nationals, very weak greek school. John Tesh was a brother here.
UNC-Wilmington- met the brother who was a founding fouther of this chapter, they had risk management/hazing problems.

I think I am one of 2-3 brothers from NC on this board and I go to the University of Tennessee, I am a brother there.
I remember seeing someone a brother from High Point on the board a long time ago and maybe Elon but that was it, neither have been on in a long time. Oh there is a brother from NC A&T they are doing well there.
Anyway, this plan would take very long to work, its a great idea, but not very realistic. Some of the chapters in NC are very exclusive and think they are better than others, so I do not think they would want to participate. At the same time you do not have to get all the chapters together but you can get some of them. Also, I would host the event at UNC or a school where they have big football games in the fall like ECU, UNC, South Carolina. Not many people are going to want to come up to Charlotte on a football saturday, maybe sunday for a panthers game.

No not at all, it just sounds like you did not have the connections or a really serious plan to get this to work. I think it would take a couple of years to make this plan become a reality (which means all nc and sc schools will come). UNC-Charlotte, has always had a good rep, your not the biggest greek school but you have always been one of the top chapters there. Whenever a fraternity gets into big trouble or gets kicked off it always takes a couple years to get back on the right foot. Believe me I have experienced trouble and doing my part in getting my chapter back on the right foot.
I believe Clemson is on probation right now, or just getting off probation, I read something about their chapter recently. They supposedly have a good chapter, but I rarely hear anything about that school and know very little about it, except the girls are fine and they have a good football team.
Yea, it is crap that some chapters think they are too good to do stuff with others, I hate that but its hard to change some chapters mentality. We did all go through the same thing together and share a common brotherhood experience but at the same time different chapters have different customs and ways and inculcate different meanings as to what it is to be a Lambda Chi Alpha. Anyway, I thought your idea was good, and this would be a good way to start looking into it, but the facebook would be an even better way because you can find brothers from all schools.

Beta Upsilon and Gamma Nu what's up bros!!! Chris from Pi Iota Zeta, NC A&T State in Greensboro. Yeah I too have been hearing the "tells" of a joint event with all the NC chapters...that would be awesome considering we have 9 chapters here now. 5 of which are within 45mins from our chapter. We just received our charter not too long ago. I heard something about some chapters keeping to themselves...well our chapter isn't like that...we travel to try to meet brothers in NC. We go to Wake, HPU, UNCG because it's 5mins away..hahahha, Elon, my little brother actually visited UNC after they won the NCAA!!! We actually want to visit all the chapters next year..and I think if this get together works that would be awesome! Bros feel to add me on your AIM if you have it: Blinkit182x..and best of luck on exams!!!

Sorry to butt into y'all's forum, but that's not quite accurate.
1-He wasn't in any fraternity, the Lambda Chi house just happened to be one of his many stops on that fateful night. It was a coincidence that he just happened to be driving past the Lambda Chi house when he crashed (on a stretch of road where there had been many accidents in the past).
2-It was alcohol/cocaine related, but that couldn't be proven as his father performed the autopsy and sealed the results.
3-The chapter was not meeting the requirements set forth in the campus' "Standards of Excellence" plan that is required of all GLO's on that campus, and I believe they had already been on probation by the university for not meeting the requirements for the previous two years, and they had been on various levels of probation w/ your national office for the previous three.
4-The incident where he died happened the semester before they lost their charter.
It was very, very tragic when that chapter lost their charter. They were one of my favorite chapters there, and all the brothers were just awesome men. It was a huge loss.
I do hope they will be able to return soon!

Thanks for giving a better explanation on the chain of events.
The inuendos sometimes take strange twists.
You are always welcome on LXA Thread!
It usually takes more than one thing to have a Charter Pulled. This may have been the rock that tripped the trigger.

I am an alumni from UNC Greensboro. I have been advising the active chapter over the past year. Matt Kaiser, outgoing Alpha, incoming Kappa, has been working on the logistics of having Lambda Chi Alpha North Carolina Invitiational. I will try and get him to post what he is working on here to see if y'all are interested or can work together to plot something out. If we get a few heads together from different chapters might get something to come to fruition.

Sorry about the confusion at WCU. I met people who told me about the incident I guess I believed it was a brother because everyone talked about how this incident hurt Lambda Chi directly.
I do remember how many people said Lambda Chi was not directly at fault and they got screwed becuase of this horrible incident.
Western Carolina's chapter has a alumni website, this is where I found out they were coming back and I also talked to one of my friends who is a cheerleader at WCU who told me about it. I have no clue what they are doing for housing, I liked the houses there they are different. Anyway, should be great to get this chapter back on campus in the near future.

It happens. There were so many rumors that flew around after the whole thing happened, as with anything. It's funny that these same rumors are still going around four years later.

Back to the Zeta Gathering, I think it would be Great if it can be put together.
It may lead to a template that would and could work for many areas.
Example:
Kansas City Metro Area. (6)
San Antonio. At least (3)
Penn. State area.
Florida area.
Many others where just a weekend of sports and Brotherhood could be fun and a heck of a learning experience of meeting and greeting.
Lot of hard work but rewarding I feel.
