Is it to late??

I just graduated this past semester and am enrolled in the graduate program at the University of Maryland. I have always wanted to be a part of the greek life and am now greatly regretting it more then ever. I work for the fire department and had been very involved with that over the past four years, so never really had a chance to take on the greek life.

I'm looking for that great brotherhood, guys that are all about what I'm about. Does anyone know of any fraternities at Maryland (College Park), or what the possibilities are..

Thanks

I know a few (maybe three) NPC sororities take Grad students as active members, and even more have Alum. initiation, not sure about the fraternities. Good luck with your quest to be involved.

Try searching the school's website and seeing who is on campus. Then contact them or their HQ for information. The national site might have eligibility requirements listed.

Hm, think it is a Guy Looking!

roxbury48066, I am not saying go for it, but it is Harder to get AI in a NIC Fraternity than a NPC Sorority.

As was said, check Web Sites and see if there is a group you feel comfortable with. If there is, approach them and offer Your services. Stick with it showing you are willing to work with them for the long haul. That is usually the way to join as an AI in any Group.

Good Luck!!!!!

From what I've seen, I would say AI is definitely not a normal course in the NIC. However, some fraternities may or may not have stipulations on whether or not an active member must be an undergraduate student, or simply a student. In the latter case, you have said that you are a graduate student, and are thus still a student, just not with undergraduate standing. Though I hesitate to name the fraternity from my alma mater that faced this issue head-on when a graduate student rushed their chapter, I will say that they did eventually pledge him because they have no specific language in their fraternity rules banning a graduate student as an active member.

It's a possibility, but it depends on each fraternity as to their specific rules and on the men in the chapter (their acceptance of a graduate student as an active, the student's ability to be active in the chapter, etc.)

edited for spelling

Take it from someone whos been there and done that, you don't want to be in a fraternity. Seriously, it causes more problems in the long run than it does helping you. If you want an easy way to meet a bunch of ass and sure way to get laid if you're half way decent with good game....do it. But if you're not looking for just ass....it's a waste of time and money.

just my .02 cents.

Really?

God an Ad for not being a Greek.

There is much more to it or wouldnt have been doing for 40 Years. Read some of the other threads and what Greeks have to say!

Well I'm sure other people feel differently, thats just my take on it. Some people do it to meet people and make friends....but everyone of my old brothers that I still stay in contact with have some sort of drug addiction....about 25 of them i still talk to. Some people have a hard time making friends and its a good way to go for that...but those friends have more problems (drug or arrest records) in their lives than my friends who didnt go greek. I'm not saying it wasnt fun...i'm just saying I wouldnt recommend it someone.

So if you are not into Greeklife, why not stop wasting your time here. This site is for those of us who want to promote the positive aspectcs of Greek life.

Of course, 99.5% of every org has at least 1 member who doesn't follow the rules so does that mean the entire org should be disbanded?

If the gentleman wants to see if Greek Life is for him at this stage of his life, I'd say GO FOR IT! At least he won't be saying...gee wonder what would have happened if I hadn't pledged ABC!

Because I AM greek and GC is a good way for time to pass quickly.

As for 99.5% of every org having 1 member that doesnt follow rules....my entire chapter (120 guys) was expelled from campus and our charter pulled because some people said we didnt "follow rules" So our entire chapter was disbanded.......not just 1 member. The guy was asking for opinions and I gave him mine....stop trying to cause a fight.

BTW-

If you do decide to Rush, from working in the fire department, try rushing PIKE-Pi Kappa Alpha. Our chapters in Florida do their community service at Fire Departments. I'm sure if you go rush and tell them you are/were a fireman or worked for the department...they'd love to have you. You'd fit right in.

How are you going to tell him in one breath that going Greek isn't worthwhile unless you're just looking for ass and that all your brothers are drug addicts; then turn around and suggest he join your fraternity and say that he'd be a good fit in another? Hopefully he realizes like all of us just how full of bullshit you are.

He said that of the ones he talks to still (which is around 25) that they all have drug issues. He did not say ALL his chapter (120) or all his brothers did.

Just picking a nit on Friday morn

I see absolutely nothing wrong in investigating AI membership in a GLO. Trust me, as someone who did it after 15 years! What's the worst that can happen? You decide it's not for you and move on. At least you know.

And cashmoney, I'm really sorry you have such a sour taste in your mouth with the whole experience. I don't know, but this is JMO--if a chapter gets banned from campus, seems like that boils down to one word: choice. It was the chapter members' choices to behave in a manner to get them expelled. Again JMO, I wouldn't say it's a GLO's *fault* that your brothers have drug addictions--it was their choice to do it in the first place, y'know?

That probably didn't make much sense; the caffeine hasn't quite kicked in yet this morning. Either way cash, I'm sorry you had such a negative experience.

Way to nitpick on the most benign part of my and his posts.
