Check out the Alpha Phi from Omega who won the Greek Spotlight award for the semester from the Deanof Students office. Her profile also ran in the Daily Texan - http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/eve..._spotlight.php

Also, there are a few pictures from Omega on the new Foundation site!

From Philanthropy Day a couple years ago.

And at the top, if you mouse over 'MAKE A GIFT', there is a picture from when Omega hosted a "Phis Phoning Phis" party for the Foundation.

UT had their Order of Omega Awards last night and Alpha Phi won 2 individual awards!

Who's Who in the Greek Community: Shannon D.

*Shannon was also named Outstanding Student by the Cactus Yearbook-a prestigious honor going to the best and brightest at UT! She was also Greek Woman of the Year last year and she and Christine P. are big/lil sis

Greek Woman of the Year: Christine P. (Her profile also ran in the Daily Texan as the Greek Spotlight for the semester a couple weeks ago.

*Christine was also named to the Dean’s Dozen-12 students chosen by the Dean of Students for their campus contributions! She will also be returning for her second year as an orientation advisor.

That makes it 3 out of the last 4 years that an Alpha Phi has won Greek Woman of the Year honors!
And the past two years an Alpha Phi has been named a "Who's Who" (only 4-5 recipients are selected from all 5 Greek Councils each year)

Alpha Phis also were awarded three Panhellenic scholarships:
Mary Carpenter Memorial Scholarship $2,000: Jennifer M.
Panhellenic Scholarships $500 each: Veronica G. and Nicole T.

*Order of Omega members were also recognized at last night's ceremony. Alpha Phi has 7 members in this Greek Honor Society, 5 of them holding offices! (Abby B. is President and annouced during much of last night's awards)
**It is also of note that we have the most members represented out of any other sorority or fraternity!

Eastern Illinois - Relay for Life: A*Phi had 25 participants and raised $2,200

Recreation for cancer research
Students raise over $40,000 for the American Cancer Society
By Nicole Milstead/ Activities Editor
Published: Monday, April 18, 2005

Last year Eastern had 20 teams participate, raising over $20,000. This year Eastern's relay had 33 teams and raised over $40,000, with money still coming in, Griffin said.

During Relay for Life, teams walk laps through the night on a candle-lit path.

Each candle is lit in remembrance of a different person who has fought the battle with cancer. Every hour the relay has a theme lap where one member of each team dresses up differently for that lap. Some of the theme laps included EIU pride, American pride, mismatched person, Hawaiian and Hope Lap where everyone dressed in yellow.

Greek Organizations such as Alpha Phi sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity participated in the relay.

Alpha Phi also had 25 students participate and raised $2,200.

"We are here because I had cancer and we want to relay for all the survivors and people in our lives who have cancer," said Kelly O'Malley, a sophomore health studies major and the Alpha Phi team captain. "It is a blessing to be a survivor."

A*Phi at Arizona - Mr. Greek

interesting.... no mention of how much $ was raised.

Getting visibly excited about charity

By Danielle Rideau
Arizona Daily Wildcat
Friday, April 15, 2005

The men held nothing back when they competed for the title of Mr. Greek in Alpha Phi's spring philanthropy for cardiac care organizations.

The Alpha Phi sorority's third annual Mr. Greek competition drew in about 500 people, most of which were greeks, to support their friends and fraternity brothers for the title and bragging rights as the winner of the men's pageant.

Audience members enjoyed the performances, and did not find getting naked in the name of charity offensive.

"Its more of a comedy show than a talent competition," said communication sophomore Kristina Schweinberg. "I think this type of thing is appropriate for college, and they should do whatever it takes to draw a crowd."
