New Greek Life Director at Kansas State

The internal candidate, Scott Jones, was hired as Greek Affairs director (salary approximately $60K, paid partly by the university and partly by fraternities and sororities). Kansas State is also going to hire an assistant director of Greek life (salary in low $30s)--- just in case any GCers out there are interested or know someone who might be interested. See article linked below. The Kansas State Greek system is fairly well regarded nationally, as far as I know.

Is it common for the Greek Advisor's salary to be partly paid by organizations?? That's really interesting to me.

yeah that surprised me, too. Unless it comes out of the fees paid by student organizations to use campus resources. At least that is a fee paid at the U. of MN.

me three as to never heard of that. But for 60K, living in Kansas (though i'm not too familiar with Kansas, I'd imagine the cost of living is relatively inexpensive), they should be able to have a top quality person in the job who may stay for awhile instead of the frequent turnover we tend to see. Plus they can hold that person up to higher standards.

Trust me, 60K in Greek Advising is unheard of, especially in the Midwest! I thought about applying for that position for a while, but decided I had too many family commitments here to move.

I have heard that at some larger schools, the salaries of the greek advisors are paid totally or partly by the organizations. I think U of Michigan has a similar arrangement but may be moving away from it. As more schools move toward taking a more active role in managing student organization development, it is becoming less common.

I believe it is, in part, an issue of control. Whoever pays me is who I am going to advocate for etc.
