Where Do You Draw The Line?

In elections when a sister is running for an eboard position and is asked if she has a C+ average, or will have it for the following school semester, when is it that you take her word for it and when do you need to see proof?
When do you overlook someone delinquent in paying dues so that they may run for a position because they say that they will pay it?
When does "trusting a sister" cross the line?

Hate to sound Biyatchy... but answer is plain and simple YOU DON'T. Why have standards if you're going to over look it ? We did it once and the sister never paid, and ended up disaffiliating during her term of office.. it DID NOT work out. There's always next time if she has things like grades to work on, or has to work too many hours (or chooses other things over paying dues) then she really doesn't have to time to be an effective member of E board. I know it sounds harsh... but it's the truth.

i agree. my gpa sucked and i didnt pay my dues and i was up for a position and the president of my chapter was like "sorry kandy, try again later" and yeah thats what happened hehe

You should already have her previous GPA in hand, if the scholarship committee is doing her job correctly. Each sister is required to turn in a copy of their "report card" after the semester ends....our chapter gave us two weeks after the newest semester began to turn in our grades. If this is not happening, the scholarship chair needs to get ontop of it. Besides, National needs to know your chapter GPA for awards, etc.

A sister should also not be behind in paying dues if the bursar is doing her job correctly. That sister should be on a payment plan, and if she's not fulfilling her side of the deal, sister who hasn't paid should be brought before Judicial Board (or whatever it's called now). Being in good financial standing is really important when having a position.

If you are the only person feeling this way, make sure you bring it up when you vote. Let the sisters know how you feel when you speak about the candidates who are running for the position. An unreliable sister should not have an E-board position. She's already shown you her history.

hey! i am a J-Board advisor you should have a section in your constitution about dues & scholarship. If you don't, you really should. It helps in these situations. we have payment plans like most chapters have, we also have a scholarship improvement plan that helps with sisters that are not doing well.

so, you should have:

1) a part in your constitution that states what the minimum GPA is to run for an e-board position & a GPA for a commitee position.

2) a section in your constitution about what the consequences are for not paying dues... our chapter has to pay by the first week of the semester if not on a payment plan...

I'm sorry, but sometimes you cannot trust people to pay. Especially when you have problems as a chapter from year to year. It's getting a whole lot better now though!

Yeah we have all of those things...
But the issue is all resolved now so things are alot better!

well you can't be inducted until your grades are high enough and your dues are paid... let her run... if she gets it you don't induct her until she does her stuff.. if she doesn't have it by the first formal meeting of the next semester run another election for that position

nip it in the bud... if a sister doesn't have the grades, or hasn't paid for dues, don't let her be elected for a position. It will just be better that way... the chapter can focus on other things & not have to worry about elections again
