February is Heart Month

February is Heart Month.

The Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness. On the first Friday in February each year, women and men across the country can unite in the national movement to give women a personal and urgent wake-up call about their risk of heart disease. Participate in this life-saving awareness movement by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie. You can also sport a Red Dress Pin year-around - there are several versions -- one by the AHA, one by NHLBI, one by Swarovski, one by Heart Truth, and one by Alpha Phi.

You can get a FREE AHA Red Dress Pin here: https://www.s2mw.com/AHA/grfwReg.aspx

Here is the NHLBI version: http://emall.nhlbihin.net/product2.asp?sku=56-075N

Swarovski's little Red Dress Pin: http://www.crystal-fox.com/index.cfm...S_Pin_3545.htm

And here is Alpha Phi's Red Dress Pin that was introduced in July of 2004: https://www.alphaphi.org/foundation_...nt_events.html

All the pins are gorgeous and i have most of them

Why a Red Dress? The Red Dress was designed to build awareness that women are at risk; give a sense of hope that women can reduce their risk, and empower them to do so; and provide a clear call to action coupled with a sense of urgency. As an icon, the Red Dress tested well with women across the country who cited its ability to get attention, convey the seriousness of heart disease, and change the perception that it is only a man's issue.

Great article about the effectiveness of the Red Dress as a symbol - http://news.corporate.findlaw.com/pr...005213135.html

The Alpha Phi Foundation is a Coalition Partner with WomenHeart, the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease. Since 1946, Alpha Phi has focused on cardiac care as a philanthropic priority. As a women's organization, Alpha Phi Foundation places special emphasis on women's cardiac health.

February 7-11, 2005 is Alpha Phi International's Cardiac Care week. Alumnae and collegiate chapters across the country hold events designed to increase cardiac care awareness.

If you have an Alpha Phi chapter on your campus, see if they have any events planned this month!
