ok this may be a completely stupid questions, but as we have learned, i'm not always the brightest bulb in the box. but do you need to buy any other Sims games before this one or can it be bought as a standalone?

If this works the way they've always worked expansion packs, you will probably have to buy the Sims 2 first.

Uh...why is that guy drinking pink lemonade from a keg? I thought the Sims had a mature rating, I did not know it was "PG".

AWESOME! I once tried to set up a Sims neighborhood like a college campus, and it didn't quite work. Glad to see they're doing this.

I'm pretty sure it's rated "teen" and not "mature." At any rate, alcohol does not exist in SimWorld, but they have some girly fruity drinks that "lower inhibitions" and get Sims to do stupid stuff. BUT IT'S NOT ALCOHOL -- probably so they can keep their teen rating instead of being bumped up to "mature."
