Just curious, what school are you at? or any location. if you live near me i would be willing to volunteer my time. Its a big world out there so probabilities are small, but hey i was invovled with the greek system at my school and could offer any advise. let me know.

Not in boston yet but good luck. If i had moved already i would love to help out. Big step starting up a whole system. keep us up to date. I read the ucsc thread last weekend and my god was it moving. I think the tread is a good example of what to do and what not to do.

Hope to hear good news. keep us up to date with your progress.

Cant the national panhellinic council assist with some of your need. or maybe a local panhel alum group. Boston, big city. There has got to be women who could/would be willing to help you achieve your goal. i think that contacting people at pan hel alum's would help you. I would not get leadership positions until you get a nice number of women. and once you have officers and recruit more women be sure to have non vital positions where people can get involved and feel connected to the group. I have worked with a lot of fledgling organizations, not sororities but a group is a group, and one of the most important ways in getting people to stick around is making them feel included and wanted/needed.

if i think of other words of wisdom that would be of use to you I will try to remember to come here and let you know. I know that it may take time. or you might have done this already but this place seems like a great resource to find info and really good info at that. There are some high quality people here. Maybe you could ask for people on this board who are in or near boston come and help you out. I really would but i am stuck here in washington until i get my accident stuff seattled. darn car accidents and injuries.

good luck again,
debbie

I've never been to a meeting, but I'm sort of the Alum Panhel rep for my sorority in Boston. If you need any contacts there, pm me. Good luck with everything!

ideas

if your college lets you have access to student email addresses you might send a mass email alerting all students that you are attempting to form an interest group of women with the intention of becoming an npc sorority. it would be okay for you to contact women and men alike, because the men might know a female student who would make a great sister, and either give you her name or encourage her to go to the meeting. i know that you are up north, but if weather permits, you could write messages with chalk on the sidewalks. post posters everywhere you can, saying when the meeting will be, what the meeting is for and where it will be. your meeting format sounds good, just keep it as brief as possible. if you need other officers right away, you may have to take just whomever is willing to hold an office. the brunt of the work will probably be on your shoulders, but it sounds like you are up to the task. please keep us updated and bedst wishes to you!!

With any NPC group you are looking at, especially at a school that is virgin territory as far as Greeks are concerned, make sure that what they expect of you is on a par with the assistance they are promising you.

That is, if they want you to (example) have 75 sisters before chartering, ask what kind of help you can expect as far as keeping up morale, keeping up numbers and presenting a new idea to your fellow students. If they want you to follow a specific meeting procedure and reporting procedure, they need to send a human to walk you through it, not just tell you to read the manual.

While whatever NPC bids you is giving you a great opportunity, you are providing them with an opportunity as well.

Lightbulb update

hi everyone!

I just wanted to thank you all for all your supporting messages and pm's! I just wanted to update you on what is happening lately. I was a little worried that the lady in charge of Student Activities wasn't behind me 100%, but I just sent her an email of what I basically put here, and she seemed impressed! I think the student leaders before might just not have been as serious.

She gave me the expansion womens contact information for the NPC, and I just emailed her...we are going to put packets together explaining what our sorority is all about to certain sororities that we are interested in! I emailed her to find out the correct way of doing everything.

I also got the contact information for theta phi alpha, and I emailed that women to see if any current members or alumnae could come and speak at our informational meeting. (Anyone ladies want to come and speak here in Boston feb 3?!)

We are holding our informational meeting on Feb 3! I am nervous, but excited at the same time. I am going to advertise for this meeting like hell, after all I am a marketing major! It is hard doing this on my own, none of my friends at school seem to want to take on leadership roles...but I have faith in myself.

I'll update as soon as I hear more.

I'm confused - if TPA is going to make an expansion presentation, shouldn't they be contacting sisters to come speak instead of you?

Unless you mean just you guys holding a regular interest meeting as a local - I don't think they can come to that unless you and the school have definitely decided to go with TPA. It would be better to have someone from the alumnae panhel come and speak about the general benefits of NPC membership.

They aren't coming to make an expansion presentation, yet...it was just a regular interest meeting. Any clue on how I can get someone from the alumnae panhel to come and speak ?

thanks
