Crazy Rumors

What are some crazy rumors about your GLO that people on your campus believe? Ours were that you had to submit your parent's tax forms to prove they made a certain amount of money and that you had to do a line of cocaine on initiation night.

Hmmmm...we just had lots of the typical ciricling parts of fat rumors going on.

Nothing too special.

We have LOTS of stereotypes about my house though...surrounding us eating Karats (carrots) and other fun dumb stuff like that.

It was rumored on campus that a certian sorority made their new members shove a cucumber up a goat's butt at initiation. I'm not lying about this one!

No good rumors at my school, but on the subject of goats, a friend of mine told me about a rumor at her school that for initiation a fraternity would bring in a goat and smear their NM's genitals with peanut butter. That one is quite gross.

This is something that started off as a crazy rumor but turned out to be true. All of our sororities are pretty new, around six years, while our local chapters that we came out of were along for a long time. There was a rumor that one sorortiy still initiated into their old local sorority, they would wear their letters around campus.

Then the truth finally came out. apparently there was some intiating into the old sorority. but not everyone got to do it. There was a sorority within a sorority. those girls that were in the local sorority would pick random girls out of the rest of the sorority to initiate into the local. They finally got cause and national's came down and about seven or eight of their girls ended up deactivating. It was a big deal on campus because this sorority was the one that constanty won everything and was really snootty about it. They always almost got in trouble for dirty rushing or for talking about other sororities during recruitment...

Someway, somehow, my org got branded the "lesbian sorority". Which is quite interesting, considering most (I mean 95 percent) are either engaged, lavaliered, or seriously dating a man. Of course we joke about it all the time, but it is still pretty presumptuous of people to label everyone in one house.

About the fat circling, during recruitment open houses, the third sentence out of every chapter president's mouth after entering the house was, "And NO! we won't bring frat boys in to circle your fat".

No real hazing rumors, but there were three big non-hazing-related rumors and misconceptions:

- About my local - that it was made up of women who couldn't get into a "real" (read: NPC or NPHC) sorority

- You had to be Jewish to join (the local's founders were Jewish, but the first pledge class had a non-Jewish woman, and my chapter has lots of non-Jewish sisters today)

- We were really a "little sister" org for AEPi. (AEPi was very good to us, and some of my sisters dated AEPi's, but AEPhi is definitely not a little sister org - for one thing, on the national level, we were founded first!)

We didn't get anything too crazy, except the typical fat circling rumors. I also heard that we will extend bids to anyone and even just hand our shirts out to random girls so they can wear them around campus.

I dont think my school has any of these type of rumors.. I guess it's because greek life is a bit more laid back (We don't have houses, they are very strict on hazing, etc)

Hmmmm... I'll see if I can think of any

ETA: we only have the ABC is the blonde southern conservatives, DEF is the wild party girls, GHI will give a bid to anyone who breathes, JKL's are all of the football guys, MNOs are the nerdy guys, PQRs are the druggies kind of stereotypes/rumors.... most of those stereotypes are based on the truth, but there are obviously a lot of people in each chapter that couldn't be farther from them

Oh god, what rumors AREN'T there about my sorority on campus? Although in the past couple years they have managed to die down, thank god!

Let's see.. I've heard that we all do coke, we're all anorexic, we won't accept anyone who isn't blonde (out of 100 of us, theres probably about 20 brunettes, but we dont discriminate during rush!), we stand pledges up in the middle of the mountainlair (our student center) and the CROWD can circle their fat. That last one was my favorite. I love getting to hear the crazy rumors during rush, I seriously don't know where people come up with this stuff.

During rush last year half the girls in my journalism class rushed so they all acted like my best friend during class. They would talk about the dumbest stuff that wasn't true. Some of the things they said were:

Alpha Phi won't take ANYONE who has even the slightest bit of a belly!

Oh that girl will go to one of the "pretty" sororities! (Which I am proud to say DG was one of the ones they considered a pretty sorority as was Alpha Phi, the other is a no brainer.)

That sorority makes its pledges have sex with the sweetheart!

DG hazes! (Not thrilled with that one, that girl didn't get a bid anywhere)
