My rush was a great experience, though sometimes stressful. I attend a small school with only four national Panhellenic sororities, which probably made rush a little easier for me than others. We had casual parties, semi-casual parties, then formal preference.

Here is the only advice I have for you:
Always keep an open mind.
Don't let your ideas about race, religion, etc get in the way of your choice. I am also African-American, and its just a given that the sororities on campus here are predominantly white. If you look beyond that, you will find something deeper, I promise.
No matter what you choose, be confident.
Have a good attitude about everything.
If you think someone or some sorority isn't following rush guidelines by insulting, hazing, or anything like that, tell someone privately. You don't have to make a big deal about it, but it's important to blow the whistle on things like that.
Most of all, try and have fun. You only get one rush experience, formal or not, so try and make some great memories.
